I have played 4 games so far. I find that I dont get play with the late game units enough. Is there a setting I should change? My last game I played with only a turn victory and that was the best so far, but just wondering if I could be doing more.
The AI barely progresses to modern units, the human can speed through an end game tech per turn, all resulting in no even modern warfare. I don't think any setting changes are going to help much, the end game needs a complete balance overhaul. Hopefully a dedicated update in the future.

Actually if you play on Humankind difficulty the AI can keep up surprisingly well if it gets a good start. Very often when playing on normal speed the AI enters the last Era at around turn 150, which is when i enter it without picking OP cultures ofc. If you pick OP cultures you can enter it at like turn 120 easily.

I've beaten the game on humankind difficulty enough...actually. Never saw or had an AI use a coordinated late game army against me. I'de agree you're more likely to see a late game competitive AI on harder difficulty levels, more so than just changing current settings on lower ones. It's still an issue of technology pacing in the late game.

that is disappointing.
I heard the devs are looking into giving the player more customization of the game win conditions. If that happens in a coming patch this month, I'm hoping it will be easier to extend games. So hopefully some settings to fix it soon.
