I see the new DLC coming out. I won't be buying it, nor giving a penny more to this game until they fix all the low hanging fruit stuff in the game. A Message filter for example (omg, I am SO sick getting spammed with pop growth/starvation messages). Tooltips that show EXACTLY what the increase in productions would be if you constructed a particular building. How about showing what army units are in your city WHILE your in the city screen. And so much more. And most importantly, for gosh sakes, cover up the bald spot on the top of that guy's head in the industrial era video!!!
I was about to create a similar thread, I don't understand this decision and it really worries me for the future of Studio. The game is in a dire state, most of the playerbase went back to Civilization while 2K games announces they would stop their updates on it, and here are the results :
And now Humankind comes with paid content that don't add anything to gameplay, don't talk about fixing any of the current issues, and think they can get away with it ? Back when I was supporting Amplitude for the making of Endless Legend, never would I have imagined such a thing even remotely possible. Remember how every EL/ES expansion used to be meaningful ? Sure they did release a few small DLCs here and there after several expansions and years after release. Humankind was released 4 month ago...
It also worries me in regard of Amplitude's priority : they worked on implementing new cultures while they know there are huge problems unresolved, which mean the priority is to make money, no matter the state of the game ? Is it really what became of the Magna Opus ? Anyway, I'll stop rumbling here. And as internet saying goes, my disapointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
I feel the same. I was so hyped for the game, I even preordered it. I had so much fun in EL and ES 2, but Humankind still lacks. I played Humankind for 40h and after 30h it became repetitive. They even delayed the game to make it more "polished". The game is still not fixed und the promised first day mod is still missing. I will not buy any DLC, till they fix their game and deliver what was promised.
It is a difficult situation to be in as fans of the studio and their games. I get that preordering the DLC will give them the funds they need to continue supporting the game and fixing the issues it currently has but at the same tame I understand the people who feel insulted by the studio prioritising paid content extras before fixing any of the issues the game has. Personally I play mostly singleplayer so I haven't found many game-breaking bugs, if any; and I am happy that we are getting new content to help make the game more replayable. I understand, though, that this is not the case for the majority of players and I hope amplitude are listening.
I don't think it's the same people working on QOL/bug fixes and new cultures. You don't need new code to make a new district that gives +1 food per farmer (or whatever), you just pick that property from an existing list. If anything, it's going to be a lot of work for the artists, not the programers.
I like the concept of culture packs, but the DLC didn't pick the most exciting cultures, IMO. I'd have to see if they bring interesting options to the gameplay.

I had that same thought but I think it makes sense for them to keep the cultures with more complex or new gameplay for a DLC that expands on that area of gameplay. For example it would make sense for them to include cultures that have a new core mechanic around religious influence for a religion overhaul expansion (if that ever happens, of course).

True. If you're going to add a culture players already know plenty about, it makes sense to wait until you can model that iconic part properly.
I wonder if they would rework existing cultures to give them new mechanics. The current affinities of the Umayyad and the Spanish make sense, but they could also be religious, for example.

I can understand why you release the smaller DLC now but then again consider taking some time to speak about what you are working on and about your plans in DevBlogs more often... But i'm glad to hear you'll be giving us more details soon.
Maybe I'm more easily satisfied than many of you. I love this game and find it immersing. Yes, there are many valid points made by you all, and I'm sure that improvements will come with time. When the various iterations of Civilization came out, they were not perfect either and received a lot of criticism as well. I can understand the frustration some people feel when the game doesn't feature the perfection they desire, but it is still just a game and will, I'm sure, continue to improve.
And don't forget Multiplayer. I had 3 friends all set to buy this so we could play MP, but they refuse till it and the other stuff is improved or fixed.
And they NEED to make it so all players/AIs use the same name the entire game, reguardless of what cultures they pick.
They really should have withhold this DLC until they finish the core game first.
You can't play a match of this game and tell me with a straight face that it is a finished product, when it's painfully obvious that it isn't.
The numbers used in everything in the later era are flat out placeholders, none of them have been calculated or tested in any way. This is absurdly clear.

I'm looking forward to it. Of course, game needs improvements and fixes. But it is fully playable! I've spent 200 hours in a dozen games and want more.
I remember Civ 6. For me it wasn't playable until the first expansion (15 months later)! In the meantime they released 6 DLC's.

I agree with adding permanent changes instead of turn based. Like the first event you get which adds permanent food, production or science.
I think Humankind' biggest problem is that it's a bard. It has a lot of good ideas but doesn't go far enough with any of them to pleas any one. They are focusing on competitive multiplayer, immersion and RP, making the game board game-like, and competing with Civ. What they need to do is pick one or two of those things and just focus on expanding those. They just make sure the other features aren't broken and functioning properly and then just forget about them and focus on the chosen two. I think any of the above is valid, but personally I think they should focus on immersion and RP. I think a turn-based 4X with Paradox levels of RP and random events would certainly be more capable of competing with the Civ through it's sheer uniqueness. It certainly be better off than the master of none we have now.
