As Amplitude released new event I noticed two of the goals - "Flight of Birds" and "La Serenissima". I know Ampli designed them in honor of Da Vinci's legendary achievements in natural science and engineering area, but these also means our best choices do not have strong relevance, or just far-fetched, to Da Vinci.
"Flight of Birds" calls us to use a scientist culture during early-modern, which means Joseon, or Babylonian/Greek/Umayyads with transcending. All of them has no strong relevance to Da Vinci.
"La Serenissima" requests us use Venetians to trigger a Science End. Despite whether Venetians is an weak culture for transcending, a merchant culture is not suitable for Science End. Additionally, Da Vinci spent most of his life in Florence and Milan, he had indeed visited Venice, but just a few years.
So it inspires me an idea that reworking early-modern cultures. Firstly add a new scientist culture "Tuscans" to replace Venetian merchant, with LT and EQ(remains name of "Botteghe Di Artisti") focusing on science, influence and money, e.g. "Act as a Market Quarter and Research Quarter for bonuses,+3 influence per adjacent Market Quarter", etc. Then change Joseon into merchant(or sth else), while they really benefited from Northeastern Asian trade among Korean, Chinese and Japanese.I still don't understand why Ampli followed Civ5 to recognize Korean Yi Dynasty as a mastered scientist. Of course in history they made some achievement on astronomy and agriculture, but wasn't ahead of their Chinese and Japanese neighbors so much that they can research Encyclopedia and Steam Engine in ahead of Westerns...Maybe we can have a compromising plan that give Joseon an EQ focuses on both trade and science, for example, special harbor district "+1 science slot" and "producing science from neighboring coastal water". We already have Phoenician money harbor , Carthaginian industry harbor, Norse food harbor and Swahili influence harbor, a science harbor in early-modern seems reasonable.(By the way, why Swahili harbor producing influence from neighboring coastal water ?)

Just so we're clear, you can (should) use any Early Modern culture for Flight of Birds, you just need to transcend them into Industrial Era, because I'm currently attempting La Serenissima and unlocked the challenge goal by building Biplane as Industrial Venetians. The challenge is worded "Own a Biplane as an Early Modern Era Culture", not "Own a Biplane in the Early Modern Era", so I don't think that's a bug, though the latter would fit the theme more, just would be way more difficult.

Oh, thank you! I haven't noticed this crucial detail in wording. La Serenissima and Flight of Birds are the only two challenges left to do and I was going to attempt Flight of Birds separately first. It's great to know I can go for both during the same campaign.

Oh, thanks, that makes the goal not cost so much time. But I'm really looking forward to see a new early-modern scientist culture, at best an early-modern Italian clique reflecting Renaissance .

Regarding original post, I quite like the idea of Joseon having a scientific harbour as emblematic district.
A game with Phoenicians>Carthaginians>Swahili>Joseon (w/ harbour acting also as Research Quarter) in a chaotic archipelago type map is something I definitely would like to play.
