I just wanted to share my experience about AI in combat after Vitruvian Update. [Steam/1.0.11.2173]

I see a significant tactical improvement in how AI handles battles. I don't remember noticing following patterns before the update.

  • Their deployment was not amiss at all before but now I see they choose more tactically advantageous placement for their units.
  • They used to rush recklessly for the flag when attacking and I could use their lust to capture the flag in my advantage by setting up ambushes; now, they don't always behave like this, at least not in the first one or two battle rounds. They stay in frontline focusing on my strongest units first.
  • If I'm the attacker and AI is in a rather hard-to-defend spot they no longer choose to attack me anyway, like animals are programmed to do in Neolithic Era. They learned to wait patiently as I'm the one who has to capture the flag.
  • They now utilize troop rotation more effectively as I try to do myself; i.e.they prefer to protect severely wounded units by relocating them far from frontline so that I can't finish them next round and they can prolong the battle into next turn. [I don't remember noticing this before]
  • They once even chose to do a kamikaze attack on my weaker units instead of playing for the flag at the end of a battle when it was certain that they couldn't capture the flag and win the battle. I never saw them behaved like this before.
Tactical battle play has been the strongest and most enjoyable part of Humankind for me. It seems (if it's not a placebo effect on me) it has become even more tactical and fun now after Vitruvian Update. Kudos to devs who keep improving Humankind.

I fully agree with you.

I also noticed that, after a battle ended, they immediately attacked my wounded troops relentless ... not sure they were doing this way before.

Agreed, this game is starting to shape up. Just wish we were at this point a year ago lol but c'est la vie.
