I have a doubt about the Ancient Egyptian city names and maybe someone who is more knowledgeable in history or a dev can help me understand better. Why are the Ancient Egyptian city names in Greek (Memphis, Thebes) instead of Egyptian (Men-nefer, Waset, etc.)?. The general rule in the game seems to be to always go for the name in the language of the culture the city represents, but here the devs appear to have chosen the names from the Greek period. Is there any reason for that choice? I am aware that with the Olmecs they went with Spanish names because we don't know how they referred to their cities themselves, but that doesn't seem to be the case for the Egyptians. Is there a historical fact I'm ignoring for this design choice? Would love to learn more about this.

To be fairly honest, for those ones in particular, back in the days it was one of the first culture we designed, so we didn't exactly know how using ancient egyptian would be perceived. So I think the choice was made to go with more well known names by the general audience (an maybe more expected as well) rather than going with more time wise historical names.

Thank you! I can imagine, I even thought myself that Thebes and Memphis were the ancient egyptian names, it wasn't until today that I was thinking about how a Ptolemaic Egypt classical era culture would look like that I went to look the Greek names up and found out Thebes and Memphis were, indeed, the Greek names. Thank you for the swift reply, have a nice day as well!
