I'd like to ask, why enemy units are much powerful than my compared units. For example on Civilization difficulty and Contemporary Era enemy Like Infantry has 73 Combat Strength, compared to my equal Line Infantry which has 57 Combat Strength. When I upgrade my unit to Rifles, which should be better, my Rifles has 63 Combat Strength. And this is normal combat strength without any visible modifiers like religion. In the battle my unit hits enemy units for 5-15 dmg, while enemy units hits my unit for 50-70 dmg.

Is it normal or something is broken? In previous eras there was no such a difference between units. The longer I play the game, the more difficult battles are. Am I missing something?

Is the AI in question playing as the Soviets culture? Usually when units have an absurd combat strength it's because of weapons factories

Yes, there are Soviets. Now I see, they have 18 weapons luxuries!! So, am I unlucky in this game?

No, the design is unlucky. Soviets break the Contemporary, hopefully that will get looked into and soon. If that bonus at least applied only to attacks then it would be manageable, although still broken, but as it is now, you need to either befriend Soviets or rush them and stomp them to the ground the moment they appear.

And what gives AI 7 speed on his units? My units has 4 speed.

There are many cultures, wonders and religious tenets that give higher speed. I tried a "speed"-run once and it was fun to zoom all over the map. Never have to worry when retreating since your retreat is faster than they can move normally :)

Rush exosuits in the contemporary and you get +4

Yeah, I love the Assyrians for this, and Eschew Gluttony is probably my favourite Tenet of the tier.  Go with the Industrial Persians and house your armies on Caravanserai instead of Garrisons for another fun boost.

Assyrians into anything into aztecs into Inca into Persians for maximum speed
