1. Can a player take a co-op game they are in and play in SP mode? (Say you want to try out some ideas before getting back together.)

2. Are the MP and SP files mixed together under the file location: C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Humankind\Save Files?

3, It is a simple matter of copying the particular game file.ctr, send it to your co-op friend, then they place the file in their ^, then they can play this game in SP? 

4. They would simply click the READY button under their player name?

I think you can, it's just that you will have to start that game in a multiplayer lobby, but make sure you're not playing with any other human player--as the game will replace them with A.I players.

However: It's been a while since I played multiplayer, so I can't remember if the save file was in the same computer file--but I imagine so.
