My Wishlist:

Culture packs

  • Cultures of East Asia. Because from the Zhou to the Ming there is a lot in-between
  • Cultures of the Eurasian Steppe: This is what I call the "Central Asian" Cultures pack. Your Khazars, Yuezhi/Kushan, Timurid/Gurkani, Goturk, even the Hungarians, and yes, the Ukrainians.

Areas of Improvement

  • Corporations and Trade: The system is there, there is room to expand beyond the current "build a better extractor", creating a global syndicate or monopoly for resources. I would actually support building trade routes and dealing with distances.
  • Religion: I think there is something to be said about actually getting into the meat and bones of religious spread, dealing with schisms, employing syncretism. etc.
  • Minor Factions: City States could be a bigger system, able to confederate into larger threats or change global trade.

That's a great wishlist right there.  ++

This is something HK is uniquely in a good spot to try out due to the world generation. Making the routes actually matter (with some being incredibly profitable if built up and defended) could create a whole game layer. The current version hasn't changed much since EL, and the UI on it is even more nonexistent than what EL had, so it's a prime candidate.

I would like to see neutral units, Bandits, Highwaymen and Pirates, that could park over the trade nodes and siphon portion of the income depending on their cumulative CS...

...and then I'd like to see a wider selection of Stealth units available to player, that could (limited to an army or two at once, maybe with an additional cost attached) with a click turn to appear as such neutral brigands and be used to siphon the trade routes income for our own benefit - at the risk of being treated just like them and an army will be sent to remove them (and a random chance of grievance being generated after battle, representing enemy figuring out who did they work for).

Well if we are wishlisting, I’ll gladly join :)

My top 3 wishlist:

1) Trade & naval gameplay. I would love to see more intricate trade mechanics and an end to the simplified overpowered bonuses. I also believe “patronage” has to be severely reworked because right now it means game over whenever I reach it. Its way too powerful, and the simple click and buy instant bonuses really don’t do justice to trade and offer little gameplay fun.

Additionally, a trade expansion is a great opportunity to upgrade naval gameplay.

2) Adding late game mechanics. I would love to see the introduction of a new gameplay mechanic when we hit the Industrial era. I believe pollution was supposed to add interesting gameplay but as of now it doesn’t deliver. Partly because there is too little time for pollution to do anything effectively. The problem is there is too little time in between the Industrial Revolution starting, and the Contemporary Era already introducing nuclear and green power options. In general I believe there is a whole (Modern) era missing between the two. All in all it seems late game has not gotten the attention and development time as the other era’s, even though it has a ton of options for units and buildings. This is a general 4x problem, and I really hope Humankind is going to take a shot at making late gameplay interesting.

3) Additional biomes. As much as I love the gorgeous art of the map, I’ve also found it to be a bit boring after a while. The continents all look and feel the same. I would love the addition of unique biomes that only show up in 1 continent. Natural wonders offer some variation and reward for exploration, but I would love to see some different color, vegetation and other landscape variation.

No news about a new expansion/dlc? Disappointing :(

Unfortunately not. They said more news about what's coming near the end of the month. But yes, I was hoping for a big intel drop too.

Marketing rules guys, it is the way things work today. If you announce your thing too soon, it creates the buzz at the wrong moment, and when your thing finally releases it has been forgotten and sales are not as good. It is why now the marketing guys are so powerfull : they define the right timing for the best efficient buzz.

If indeed there is an announce coming end of this month, then from experience I would say it is a pretty good sign for something coming early fall. :)

I actually liked the Apex release, which was like "Here let us show you a trailer for our new game. And the release , oh well right now?!"

They dropped Latin America dlc with Bolivar out of the blue, so I don't know if marketing is the reason, Maybe they simply need more time to see what they will share and how the roadmap will be.

On the topic of that, lead designer Moris actually gave some pretty concrete hints as to what is coming long term. He mentioned 1) something about cultures working together, which I believe is hinting at the upcoming Diplomacy expansion, 2) pollution and 3) religion. Doesn't mean this is fixed of course, but it does tell us pollution and religion are at the forefront of their ideas after the Diplo Exp - assuming that is true.

As for pollution, if it substantially gives us more to do in the final two era's I'm all for it and I understand the theme being important to them. As for religion, I believe it is pretty decent now, and I much prefer a Trade & Naval expansion before a religion rework. But it does seem to be something that people generaly mention more than trade/naval. And they made it clear that the community feedback decides to a large degree what they will (re)work.

In this particular type of game (and especially with how harshly many look at it), I wouldn't be surprised if there's a drop off in players between announcements and releases. I know when I see the update teasers I'm like "welp I guess I'll come back when that's out (and then wait another week for mods to be updated)". If there was a MP community they'd all be hyping each other up (this was certainly the case before ES2 Penumbra launched), but there isn't yet. I don't see any major downsides to a stealth drop. This also allows them to delay as much as they need to for bugfixes.

Agree on pollution. It comes in at a time where the game might already seem like a done deal, so a new problem to shake things up is exactly what's needed. A softer version of the "endgame crisis". I hope they actually do something with it. Especially if it pushes diplomatic gameplay (and Ampli tends to follow a pattern where their base games are solitaire and then every DLC pushes more and more PvP gameplay... hm...)

Seconded, It does get stale after a while how the best area to settle is always mountain, forest, river. Different high yield combinations would be apreciated, but they really need new biomes to work:

  1. Floodplains
  2. River detlas
  3. Mangroves
  4. Natural harbours
  5. just better lakes.

My main hope for the game would be: more rewarding transcending, and tall gameplay.

Cultures of South Asia?

The Moguls are long gone (though they left the Taj Mahal) and the Mauryan symbol is on the Indian flag, but what about Sri Lanka? Or the Sinhala?
We are quite uniquely the most significant continuous culture/nation in South Asia that has existed since antiquity (in large part due to being on an island).

I don't rule out that they will make a Tamil. Just like the last time they asked for the use of Islamic Mughals on Hindu festivals, they offended Hindus.

Nice suggestions. Mangroves are on my list too, as are wetlands/swamp. But I was also thinking about making temperate deciduous a bit more varied too. The game is very good at the hot & dry type, but everything looks a bit reddish/yellowish, even the grassy lands. It leads to a bit of quick saturation. I would love to see more deeper greens, and a bigger difference between cooler regions and hot & dry regions.
Also, the difference between forest and rainforest is very subtle. I would love to have large tropical rainforests that are hard to cross and penetrate. There is also a “huge tree” modifier on single tiles, but again it is very subtle.

Because the art is so great I think they could do splendid things with biome variation. Also the map generation in itself could use some tweaking. It’s just a tad boring. I know chaotic is an option but that looks quite ugly most of the times.

The Cholas are a bonafide empire. (They conquered Sri Lanka for 75 years a millennia ago).

Civ VI acknowledged it with the Great Admiral Rajendra Chola.

Oh Tamils are an IP in HUMANKIND already... but laughingly they put its capital as Jaffna (Sri Lanka) forgetting that there are 50 million Tamils in India (vs. 1 million Sri Lankans). LOL

They may indeed issue a cultural package related to South Asia. Before the official launch, some cultures were leaked, including Inca, Nepal and Tibetans. However, Inca was officially introduced in the Latin American package. Let's see if other contents are possible?
