How will the future expansions be?

Currently it has just been announced the first ever expansion of Humankind that, rather than just adding new cultures or wonders, introduces new mechanisms, a new unit class, a new resource and a new affinity: all exclusive of the future expansion. Being it maybe a little to early to know further details it would be a waste of time to keep asking devs for informations but, surely, wanting us to avoid wasting time, this may be our perfect moment for sharing our expectations or our doubts about the future.

Here it's so that I created this thread for all the community so that everyone shall feel free to leave an opinion or ask an explaination.

Here are my ideas:

  • I think that the new system will completly (or, at least, considerably) change the alliances with both IP and players, I am probably expecting the addition of real treaties between the parts and that Embassies will play a major role in this mechanics
  • I expect the congress to appear in Humankind around a certain era (probably early modern or industrial) or with some requisites (it will automatically appear if someone reaches X Influence per turn making him like a "superpower")
  • About the congress, I would really like the idea of "world grievancies" that empire may ask not to an empire but to many of these (like, a grievance against an alliance that is in war with me) and the (secret) support of revolutions in other empire's cities if they're unstable (maybe funding his angry citizens to rebel agaist him or funding other empires with lower fame that have grievancies agaist like the empire with most fame and, if it reveals successful, the empire with little fame will obtain a major fame bonus while the empires that helped him will receive a normal one). The congress may surely be a great opportunity for preventing empires with great fame to snowball (I would love to recreate a scenario like the coalition against Napoleon) while allowing minor ones to stay competitive (another example: how in the 30 years war United Provinces, with the huge support of his allies, defeated Spain) but I hope that great empire will still have a chance to resist to pressures (and here's the reason why many people find the congress useless since, without a temporary "coalition", it would be in fact monopolized creating a cold war scenario. Actually I would like to have a similar type of congress and I hope that it will create similar scenarios that, in addition to be absolutly interesting will actually be very similar to what happened in history)
  • I suppose that Leverage will be the new "currency" for joining (I hope the game would even recreate some scenarios of "unrecognition" for some empires or some or their territories) and making choises or other thing in the Congress and I hope that the game will allow creative ways to earn it (Narrative Events, World Deeds, payment of grievancies, Cultural Wonders...)
  • Anyway, probably the agents (and the embassies) will be the main way to collect this resource and maybe they will use it for the new stealth system (ex: if someone catches you doing something you should not have done you can put pressure on them with this resource for trying to prove that it wasn't you and maybe give the fault to someone else)
  • I hope that, in addition to the mutual access to Emblematic Units allies will have to possibility to help each other with Shared Project and that with the diplamatic improvements it will be able to trade territories (ex: during the industrial era USA gained many territories because the sellers didn't wanted them to be stolen by GB wich, in fact, was much more fame-popular at the time and hence one of the reasons why currently it came out as a global power)

It is true that asking for additional information won't make that happens.
We will prepare dedicated blogs to explain all the different features + cultures (when? soon? I mean I can not tell you the specific date, so you will have to wait a bit more)

In addition,  talking about the Congress,  I hope that it will expand further the usefulness of the Faith since it played a major role in the diplomatic issues of many wars. I hope also that it will introduce the mechanic of schism (but unfortunately, realistically talking, I think that this will be Introduced in future Faith expansion); about this, the religious reforms made from Elizabeth I that currently characterise the Anglican Church were an important step that lead to the true greatness of the Elizabethian Era

Ideas about possible future expansions:

  • Trades and Seas Expansion (fixes wonderous effect, improves trade system, improves focuses more the gameplay on seas, adds pirats, modifies the value of a resource depending on its rarity and depending on number of empire buyers)
  • Faith Expansion (improves drastically the religion sistem adding schisms and making the system a little bit more "active" because it feels too passive)
  • Natural Disasters Expansion (adds natural disasters and much more narrative events)
  • Tourism Expansion (cultural/natural wonders, emblematic quarters and reserves generate culture and money adding ways to improve them; it should add a way to end the game with an influence-aimed gameplay)
  • Logistic Expansion (adds the possibility to build bridges, improves train stations and airports, adds canals and the "strait" natural modifier that allows both land and water units to move on it but it generates a CS stability like rivers do, and rivers offer both economic and logistic bunuses with some research/infrastructure)

We can not give you specific dates :(
Will be on October, thats the most i can say

Based on this message I would assume that we'll get further details about the expansion and its new cultures by the end of the month (but I don't think that they'll reveal everything) and that we'll have the chance to play it during the middle/end of October.

For anyone who doesn't click the link: this is specifically about a blog post releasing in October.

Recently I just had an interesting idea, but I don't know if it would match well the spirit of the game.

Would it have a sense a possible space expansion? I was thinking about something like:

  • Reworking the current way of launching satellites/expeditions (they should at first a low % of success that can be raised by doing "normal launches"/ spying on empires who have already done them. These should be just Projects whose meaning should just be to raise the % of success, and maybe they should give a little bit of science)
  • Adding new actions (ex: before launching an expedition on a planet you should map it first, maybe, if a "Future era" will ever be added to the game, the player should be able to mine asteroids)
  • Adding new planets to discover (just for launching probes, not to colonize; launching probes should give Influence and Science, or, maybe, just give fame like researching first some technologies does)
  • Adding the possibility to launch multiple satellites around the earth (adding a max cap and a maintainance cost on them) for different uses (military satellites, commercial ones, scientific ones...)
  • Giving more depth to the "scientific end" of HK, currently doing just 3 National Project to end the game doesn't feel too much "competitive" (it should be a little bit more complex)
