I originally posted this on the steam forums, without much success, so I post it here.

1) If I choose random opponents, does it take into account the difficulty settings? For instance, if I select Humankind difficulty, does it select random expert/hard AIs?

2) If I download Expert AIs from the website, do they join the random pool of AI? Or do I need to select them manually before starting a campaign?

3) (Bonus question) How do you like to set the difficulty of your games?

1. If not mistaken, the first one is a random choice (but i note the suggestion)

2. Yes, they join the pool

3. I tend to play on Nation, as I wanted to "chill" a bit haha

Apart from what's already been answered, keep in mind that whether the AI personality appears as "expert" or not, you won't notice it that much in your own games. In general it might be a bit harder to play against aggressive AIs (whether they are "expert" or not) because agression is just a better strategy in general. But it's usually not a major change.
