I've trying for a while now to get maps that do not have an ocean. I've tried using the "no ocean" setting, which does literally nothing. I keep getting large pangea maps instead where I always spawn on the coast. How that makes sense to anyone is beyond me. I've been struggling with this since the first week after release. I initially thought it was an oversight on the part of the developers, but the bug has never been fixed and it's becoming very frustrating. The ocean mechanics create a very poor game experience, and I don't think I should be forced to engage with it just because the developers aren't bothered to write decent map gen code. I paid full price for the game and this is a very poor result. It's like literally no effort was put into the water mechanics and on top of that there's no way to avoid it. I'm beginning to question whether the game is even worth owning at this point. It's an extremely poor user experience. If there is no setting to remove oceans, why lie to consumers and imply that there is? Do I need to manually create a map for every game I start? Or would it be better to edit the source code to fix this myself?
Edit: I've tried creating a custom map with the map editor and apparently that does nothing either, when I loaded the game, the map was nothing like the one I made.

I don't have any DLC for Humankind. I also have no desire to spend any more money on an obviously broken game.
