Who has never wanted to become a secular - or atheist- state once the industrial era was reached ?

You have fought to make your religion the TRUE religion, but that time is over. The faithful are still there but they don't want any more bloodshed.

It is time for your state religion to take a well-deserved retirement.

But the fact is that you have too much to lose !

You simply lose hard-earned and powerful bonuses.

It is not enough to simply stop generating grievances : I think it would be wise to earn other benefits for irreligion, perhaps based on the number of believers in our former state religion, or retain some of the benefits previously earned, a kind of retirement pension.

You've created something great with the politics of irreligion, but as long as you don't improve it, nobody will enact it. (Unless you really don't care about religion !)

Thank you for reading me.

Agreed, I have never taken irreligion in the 18+ months of playing Humankind.  I'd love for some sort of benefit, but I'm not sure what.  I like your "retirement pension" idea.  I feel the religion system needs a bit more depth to it, and a retirement pension can be related to that.

For example, say the faith and religion system were to change such that individual population members were counted as practitioners and we got benefits based off of individual practitioners or majority/minority territories... we'd want to fight for the hearts and minds of our populace for much of the early game, because we'd get a bonus for each individual practioner... but when we chose Secularism, that could "lock in" certain benefits culture-wide, like how "legacy Christian beliefs" (forgive the term) affect everyone living in Western civilization, from weekends to Christmas to basic laws.
