I have a problem in my games where, at first I'm friendly with the Ai and trading alot. Then alot of them start choosing Isolationism and/or get mad at me and make demands blocking trade. So my trade income falls rapidly. It seems the only way to remedy the loss of resources is to either take the land or vassalize them. This solves the resource issue but NOT the trade issue. Because resources in your empire AND resources in your vassals do not count as trade. 

Should they? Should resources from your vassals count as trade? What about internal resources - maybe a different type of trade? Anyway, it makes playing a trade focused style (like Venetians) kinda weak, though focusing exclusively on gold is no problem.

My recent game - mid-game everyone started hating me for no reason (well, the reason is probably that I was starting to win and/or they were becoming very strong militarily compared to me since I was peaceful), so I had to make some vassals but I don't get the trade back.

I think the logic is that since they are your servant their resources are yours. When a third party buys resources from your vasall you should also receive a sum of gold.

Are we able to buy resources of someone else's vassals? If I recall correctly, you keep the trade if you had it before the vassalization, but afterwards, there's no way to buy it - since there's no trade treaty option for vassals.

Sounds intended, the won't sign treaties with you if they don't like you.

If they take Isolationism you can still trade if you are allied.

I sometime take expansionist cultures so I can extract territories without war.

You can also take territories with resources and liberate them to generate some trade routes, but I'm not sure that's worth it.
