Envoys vs Stealths

Currently AIs spawn stealth units, make multiple squads of them, even when they don't have relevant combat power until unlocking partisans. However, there is a type of unit that will always be weaker than the prowlers, after all the envoys are weaker than all other existing units. This becomes a terrible problem, because due to its diplomatic nature whose main function is to collect value and interact with independent peoples, which requires great mobility ignoring borders, it is not possible to escort the envoys with warriors, as they are barred at the borders. The solution would be simple, use stealth escort units, the problem is that they are exposed if joined in the same squad as an envoy. Here's the discussion of this post, in a world full of AI-generated prowlers, trying to use envoys is suicide.


I only see two possible solutions to this problem:

  1. Balance the AIs so that they don't waste so much population with prowlers, as they spend the entire modern age as easy prey, while due to the large number they render the envoys useless.
  2. Allow envoys to be escorted, that is, allow a small number of soldiers, who could not initiate combat, to accompany envoys regardless of borders without generating complaints. On the other hand, they would only serve as security against ambushes.

Or give envoy immunity, at least under some conditions, my ally should not kill my envoys.

Yeah, I think if you kill an envoy it should at least give the empire which controlled it a huge chunk of leverage against you.

Maybe ambush should only work against stealth units and hostile units? Every round my units ambush someone I did not want to; some of my spies even died this way at home territory; and yeah: the only diplomatic unit, the envoy becomes unusable from the medieval era.

There should be a stance setting for ambush capable units - aggressive/defensive.


Aggressive - ambush everything

Defensive - ambush only units that belong to countries with whom you are at war

It also doesn't really make sense that a single spy can ambush and remove all the movement points of a large army.


Alot of good ideas in this thread. For me, the most important one is put a limit on the number of prowlers, etc. just like the limit on spies. Also woe be whoever has to fight the Haudenesee - they build a ton of their stealth units.
