I am having trouble with the OpenDev. I was trying the game for a bit once I downloaded and installed it, but then on the second turn, it suddenly crashed. I tried opening the game again but when I tried, it wasn't able to run. When I was trying to open there was the icon in the taskbar and a black screen flashed and then disappeared. I figured reinstalling the OpenDev would fix it, but the problem is still there. Any way to solve this? Thanks!

I just want to bump up this thread, because I am aware of an update that's supposed to fix this. I already downloaded it but the problem still persists.

HI there!

Could you go to: C:\Users\<user>\Documents\Humankind, and grab both the save (if possible) from Save Files, and a diagnostic file from the time you encountered the crash located in Temporary Files?

Thank you!

I don't have the save, since it crashed by turn 2. For the diagnostic file, there's actually a lot of files since last night, when this occurred. But I think the crash started with this one file that has 16kb.

Diagnostics (2020'12'15 @2112'48''608''').html

Then I think there are 17 more after this with the same size. Here are the three more recent ones because I tried to get it open earlier:

Diagnostics (2020'12'16 @1345'18''907''').html

Diagnostics (2020'12'16 @1505'26''238''').html

Diagnostics (2020'12'16 @1527'09''282''').html

@Saikana

Any updates on my situation? Did you check the diagnostic logs?

I hope this would be solved by this week, I might not be able to fully enjoy OpenDev because wisdom tooth surgery.

I do not have an update at the moment, but out of curiosity, are you running an antivirus like Avast? I have seen a few other users mention that causing some issues for them. :) Worth a try anyway!

Yes I am actually, Sophos. I'll find a way to disable it once I get home from work and then report the findings afterwards.

UPDATE:

I just tried disabling my antivirus, and the problem is still there.

I tried to check the diagnostic file, and it seems that the problem involves permission for SteamClient to access the file, which was somehow denied. Any way to fix this?

UPDATE:

I've finally gotten it to run! I followed the instructions from the very first known issue here: https://www.games2gether.com/amplitude-studios/humankind/forums/209-bug-reports

I deleted the registry.xml files and my saves from the previous Steam OpenDev, and it works! I have a lot of catching up to do. Thanks!
