I downloaded Humankind using Gamepass, and playing any game results in crash within a few turns from startup. I believe the issue is a memory problem involving possibly DirectX11. Here is the last output from my log on crash:

I am using a Microsoft Surface 4 Laptop, integrated Iris Xe graphics. I can *sometimes* get more turns by playing the game on the lowest graphics settings, limiting framerate to 60, simplified army, and playing the game in a window instead of fullscreen. I understand that I do not have a powerful gaming laptop but I am wondering if there is any way to play the game at all.

What fixed it for me was a dev suggestion of adding -force-vulkan to shortcut.

Not using steam - how to add this to shortcut?

Right click on shortcut on desktop (or create one), inside Target you should see path to game executable, mine already had -single-instance, click at end, press spacebar then type in -force-vulkan then hit OK.

When I add it inside or outside the " mark it just says that the path is no longer valid, does it go in the Comment box instead? TheHocus, I can't thank you enough for how helpful you have been.

I don't see the path to the exe, do you know where Game Pass saves the exe to?

Edit: I found it saved in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps. WindowsApp is a hidden folder and the permissions are a nightmare, even after getting in I can't do anything with the exe like run it or create a functioning shortcut.

Yep. Impossible. Even creating a shortcut from the hidden WindowsApp folder does not work - the shortcut on the desktop will run as a local user and you need admin privileges. Insane. I even modified my permissions to give access to my Microsoft account to the WindowsApp folder just to get to the original exe but can't get a workaround to the shortcut issue. The solution is to...buy the game on Steam and comment in -force-vulkan in launch options. A huge bummer!
