I encounter the following bug/design flaw/no problem at all that I am just too stupid to solve myself:
I want to take an enemy city placed on an island, but there is simply no way onto the island as the entire coastline is filled with districts (or is inaccessible). This means, I cannot besiege the city, because there is no free land tile next to a walled city district. So, even though I have an army accompanied by a fleet right next to the city with the enemy military completely destroyed, there is no chance I can take the city, as my armies need to disembark to besiege the city. There is no place to disembark next to the city. Am I missing something here, or are cities which fill out an entire island "unbesiegeable"?
Obviously, this is kinda game-breaking because I cannot take a city despite having the stronger army. If there is currently no work-around, I'd suggest giving the navy more abilities concerning city assaults. In my opinion, you should also be able to attack a city from sea. Maybe not encircling a coastal city entirely all on their own, but cut off their sea resources and all that while "besieging" a coastal city with a navy, and maybe even try to defeat the garrison by attacking the city.
If the city is not on an island, but just close to the coast, the garrison could simply retreat inland a bit and avoid getting shot at. In this case here, a big fleet could bombard the garrison all on their own if the city is not properly defended with ranged troops or a navy or break down some of the defenses and allow embarked troops to storm the coastal city districts. Of course, this would be pretty bad for cities on islands in the early stages of the game, as they just have melee levies or citizens as standard defense troops. Maybe coastal cities should have a garrison fleet in that case or static coastal batteries which can bombard surrounding sea tiles.
Again, I don't know if that's a bug or if I'm just too stupid to realize what the solution is, but that's what my problem is and my thoughts on that topic.
Welcome to the club i noticed that too/ They need to add marine or some amphibious assault. and better island design. (usually i throw wonders in 2 hex island. But AI did put cities.
