I'm currently in the process of creating a map based on the Huge template. I've got somewhere in the order of ~264 territories. I get a message that an ocean territory has too much land, not enought water --> i.e. there is a continent territory that has too much water and not enough land. However, there is no such territory. Upon reloading the map after exiting the game, the index seems to have gone completely haywire, as random territories will suddenly have duplicate index entries, so e.g. an ocean tile (designated as ocean in the editor) suddenly is instead "Continent 1", and vice versa, from all available continents.
The diagnostics report is going absolutely bananas because my 264+ territories are outside the allowed 256 territories.
A few points:
1. Why hardcap it at 256 territories? This seems rather low for a game coming out in 2021. If it's because you're worried about performance, just add a warning beyond 256 territories that "this will probably run slow as hell", and let me crack on with it. If it's because of engine limitations... guys, then you need to fix your engine.
2. AT THE VERY LEAST there should be some kind of error message, or a refusal from the map editor to add territories beyond 256. I shouldn't have to go to the errorlog to find this out.
3. In the map editor guide, the only things mentioned that come even close to this are that continent territories "should" be around 50 tiles. It doesn't mention that there is a lower limit to ocean territories, which means that if you have a 1x1 island, it can't just have two ocean tiles (in addition to the land tile) even when tagged as ocean, because it is smaller than allowed. This means that the "50% of the territory must be water/land" isn't true for islands that are smaller than X.
5. There is also no range specified, just that they "should" be around 50 tiles. Which, by the way is impossible to count manually (you obviously track it, so just show it to me, say below the territory index number) and from what I can see, it's ~12 tiles or so that is the minimum. I haven't counted the tiles for the maximum size, but I assume it's somewhere above 50. Giving the range rather than what it "should" be in the guide would be helpful.
... and maybe mentioning the 256 territory hardcap.
