Did you consider taking territories by military force, or do you mean there are only 2 territories left that you dont hold?

Uh yeah I took it into account. You can't see in the screenshot very well, but there's only 2 territories there that the AI holds still, and 1 territory that I have but have not attached yet.

I said there's 2 left, technically it's 3, but if I take the last one from the AI I would win already. Anyways, even if I took and attached all 3 remaining spots, I'd still need 2 more to get the star. The entire map is visible, there's not enough land for me to get this star.

(There were multiple other AI's but I killed all but this one)

Star goals depend on the amount of stuff you did in earlier eras, so if you went overboard and got many territories after gold star (many many) you can make the Expansionist star goals impossible, sadly.

I don't think that works, at least not anymore, since I am in the last era and the stars only care about how many territories you have in total.

I could've used this maybe in earlier eras if I got over the gold star territory mark, to go back down after getting the star already and then next era capturing it back? I am not certain that works either, but it might. If it does, that would have to be changed though, because that sounds like an exploit waiting to happen to me.

It should work. Expansionist stars counts how many territories are attached to your cities. Re-attached territories are counted as well.

Edit: You don't have to wait for AI claim those territories. You can try detaching a few territories and re-building outposts and attaching again. This should also work.

Wait, what? So if I am 57 out of 62, then remove 2 territories, I don't go down to 55 out of 62, but stay on 57? Cuz if so, that'd be insane. You can just attach/detach/attach/detach territories to get free expansionist stars?

Bad news. I've just re-checked this. Detaching a territory doesn't decrease territory count towards expansionist star as I mentioned earlier. However, I'm mistaken about/misremembering the part where I said attaching the same territory increases expansionist star count. I detach and razed an outpost, build outpost again (on the same tile and later on a different tile as well), attach it to the city again. Sadly, territory count towards expansionist star didn't change. Somehow I remember it used to work as I described earlier now I'm not so sure about first option (giving away territory to AI/Independent Tribe and conquering again) will work either.
