Everytime I get to late game vs 7+ opponents on huge map at fast speed, either I will get stuck in a battle where it keeps saying the AI is moving and never procedes, or if it's between turns, the turn wheel just keeps spinning. 

I try manually saving and loading or quick loading but then I get stuck on the main menu with this error, 

"The operation was canceled.

 I get this error every game and I can never complete my games. This has happened with my last 5 games and I can't complete any of my games.
