As the title suggests, I think the game's maps are too small but also recognize that adding more land tiles is just going to throw off the balance. If a new, even larger, map size could be added with a forced 30% max and 10% minimum land percentage, I think the overall flow/pace of the game would be improved.
What I think having larger maps with more sea tiles would accomplish
- Reduces the odds of early "new world" discovery by severely reducing the liklihood of an early naval route to the new continent.
- Increases the sense of competition for the "hunt" for the new world amongst players
- Increases the role of naval/transport units in a game by ensuring cross continental voyages typically take more than 2-3 turns
- Increases the liklihood of players making use of railroad/airport tiles to cover greater distances
- Increases the importance of late game naval/aerial combat. (which i think are currently underutilized due to the speed of land unit travel)
Why Cap the land %?
- Game balance. 30% land on the largest maps is already a bit beyond the needs of most games. Its not uncommon for territory to just never be claimed by any empire. If 10% on this map size gives the same amount of land as 30% on the current second largest map size, that'd be about where I think the balance should be.

Really, i just find myself feeling confined and frustrated in a lot of the games ive been playing recently. I think extending the exploration aspect of the game by way of just making the ocean and overall map size bigger without adding additional land for players to deal with could solve that. Plz plz plz and ty ^_^
