I played in humankind for about 400 hours and this idea came up. You can introduce an additional restriction when choosing the following crops. To move to the next culture, you will not only need to accumulate a certain number of stars, but also have at least one star corresponding to the next culture. For example, to move to a trading empire, you will need to have at least one trade star of the previous era. If there are no certain stars, some cultures may be unavailable until the star is reached. It seems to me it would be logical and the idea of stars in the game would be even more interesting.
