Change icons as we adopt a new culture

I do remember that during the open dev the empires icons changed accordingly to the new adopted cultures. For some reason, the devs decided not to continue with this feature. My bet is that it is believed that if the empires icons change at every era, the players may get confused. If that's is the case, I argue that we already have two very distinctive elements that identify each player: the avatar and the empire colour. Do we need more than that? I don't think so. Changing the icons could enhance immersion. Our avatar changes his/her/their clothes, the buildings architecture also change and even the units' ethinicity changes. Why not the icon? It's literaly the new flag I'm waving this era and we should be proud about it!

Besides, there are so many interesting cultures icons that it's a pity that we never see them in the game. It's a very easy mechanic to implement.

I think that we should at least choose between keeping the same icon throughout the game or changing it at each new adopted culture.

Agreed, this should at least be a toggleable option in the game setup! It's really quite confusing and somewhat immersion-breaking that a player could be currently playing as the Romans but using the Celtic symbol, or playing as the ancient Egyptians with the contemporary era icon.

If the concern is over differentiating different players, then more of a focus should be put on the persona they are using and the colour they have chosen, as neither of these aspects come into direct conflict with their culture's identity.

Thank you! I'm happy that I'm not the only one who thinks like this.

Yeah, they should also add a togglable option to automatically rename the old culture's cities with the name of the city of the new culture (ex: Harappa becomes Rome when you switch to the Romans)
