Then launch the game and see if you can generate a map.

Good evening and my apologies for the delayed response. This work around did allow me to create and load a map. In the interest of the earlier question, I double checked and I do not have a custom location for My Documents folder, it is C:\Users\Username\Documents

Thanks again for all of your help. If you would like any diagnostic files or anything else after making the change and being able to load a map, let me know and I will upload a new set for you.

Also, if a moderator or admin would like to update the status of this post to Resolved or something similar, please do so. I could not see anywhere to make the change myself so that others would know to look here.

I'm with you.. VERY Bizzare-O! but it works and I'm on turn 30 or something...

If you face the same generation issue, try this:

Locate the EndlessLegend.exe executable. It should be located somewhere in $/Steam/SteamApps/Common/EndlessLegend

Right click on the exe and select "Properties"

Select the "Compatibility" tab

Check the "Run this program in compatibility for " and select "Windows 7"

Thanks!

There seems to be a problem, in some situations, with the communication between the main game and world generator external program. Somehow the path and files are not properly referenced/transfered. We managed to reproduce it on a remote machine, and we are building programs of incremental complexity until we reproduce the issue.

We are not sure yet. You can give a try to 64 bits, I would love to have the confirmation that it works as well.

I am glad there is a workaround, while we understand what is going on with Unity and Windows.

Well I didn't change to the 32 bit, so I'm guessing I'm still using the 64 bit version. I'm just wondering what changing this setting to run in W7 compatibility mode does?

Worked for me.. I can now play a 4 player game as well as get a random map starting point each time.

Thanks.. this doesn't put it in 32 bit mode does it? I'd like to still play the 64 bit version.

Folks,

We have managed to reproduce the bug on one of the PCs of our QA partner. We are still inquiring, but we are wondering if this could not be connected to exotic configurations of "My Documents" folder.

Can you look into your PCs, and for those who have the issue (crash at generation or identical generation), can you tell us where the My Documents folder (containing an Endless Legend subfolder) is located? Is it something like c:/users/mynam/My Documents? Do you have one in C: and D:? Are the partition storing the game install and My Documents different?

Thanks

Well.. just to response somehow: I did all of the above steps but no error occurred. All steps ended with "World generation complete".

You told us that nothing was changed about the world generation. I noticed that my "WorldGeneratorOptionDefinitions.xml" and "WorldGeneratorSettings.xml" were changed a few days ago. So i deleted them and told Steam to get the missing files. Now funny things happen: the Error is still happening (but only the windows error message: "WorldGeneratorContext ist not working anymore"), I click that one away and tabbing back into the game and NOW it's continuing to generate the world! So it's working! Just one thing to add: The map wont change (i even randomize the same random faction).

//Nevermind. I checked the difference of the two deleted files with the replaced files: None found. As it did help me it totally shouldnt (because no changes were made).

Hello,

Well we haven't changed the world generator process for a while: I don't know what is making the thing glitch right now...

(the one thing that changed in version 0.6 is the version of the Unity player)

A few things you can try to help us track down the problem:

1) ConsoleApplication2.zip

This small console application displays the game directory.

You can launch it to verify whether it manages to find your documents folder and the endless legend folder within.

2) Download and execute the attached utility (Harlinn.Depends4Net.exe.zip, your antivirus may complain its a malware but its not ^^). When it is launched load the following assembly:

Amplitude.WorldGenerator.exe

Located somewhere in your Steam folder under "[...]/Steam/SteamApps/common/Endless Legend/Public/WorldGenerator"

Tell me if there are any references that are missing.

Testing on my install I get the following:

3) Test.zip

Unzip and copy the files in the same folder where the world generator is installed, somewhere in your Steam folder under "[...]/Steam/SteamApps/common/Endless Legend/Public/WorldGenerator"

Test.bat

Double click the file to execute, it should display a console window telling that the world generator is running (using a default configuration).

You can copy the WorldGeneratorConfiguration.xml file from your documents folder (under "Endless Legend/Temporary Files") to test the world generator with the last changes you have selected in-game.

Test - Custom.bat

Open the file in a text editor and change the path to your personal folder.

Double click the file to execute, it should display a console window telling that the world generator is running (using your last configuration).

If an error gets reported, please post.

4) Also installing the latest Microsoft .Net Framework 4.5 or above may help.

Having no way to reproduce this issue on any computer in our offices or the QA's makes it difficult to track it down.

I understand you are unhappy with regressions such as this one, but please send the default files (at least diagnostics and output_log, see sticky for procedure) which might contain hints as to what is happening.
