A water race, to me, seems like a waste of resources as they would be unplayable on maps with little to no water. Either that, or their tie to water is minimal and they can still be played just as well on land, which would make them pointless as a "water race."

I'd much rather a naval expansion focus on making the sea interesting for everyone (new resources, ruins, and artefacts to uncover, as well as better maritime trade), which in turn would make naval warfare a more important and strategic affair.

Agreed. I really want them to do something with the water, but a faction tied to it would be too situational for EL. And considering the hypothetical next expansion is likely to be the last one I'd rather they focused on fleshing out new game mechanics rather than balancing one more faction.

A minor faction or factions that are aquatic might be more feasible, though, and would help make the ocean more interesting for everyone else as you mentioned. For example, you could have an atoll-based minor faction which grants players access to their unique naval unit and a water-related bonus when assimilated (something like +0.5 movement speed to ships per village or extra strategic and/or luxury resources on the ocean).

Yeah, this is a very small issue and, for that very reason, I find it immensely irritating xD

I.d subscribe to this. Even two more units per major faction (and perhaps one per minor?) would make for a solid DLC, IMO ...

Yes..Naval expansion focus please - after playing the Shifters tonight, my co-op family and friend were saying that the next DLC should focus on naval...

I wouldn't expect it at all.

There's already a sizeable list of things that need to be improved and/or fixed. Most probably, the Shifters expansions added some new entries to that list (hopefully not that many ...).

So even if this request is on the list, I'm expecting it to be towards the bottom ...

I guess I just don't understand why this is so hard to code? We can pick the factions so why can't the game just do the same and not repeat? Guess it's harder to program than I thought.

I don't think this issue has been fixed. I just started a game post-update and had everything selected as "random" and I got a message from two Drakken at the beginning of my game. Amplitude, PLEASE give us an option to have no repeat factions.

Agreed. I am ready to pay a full price for a full-fledged game expansion/addon.

This expansion being all about winter, it was only suitable to have the faction tied to it. smiley: smile

I guess that the need for ships is somewhat satisfied by having the seas and lakes frozen thus passable during winter.

My suggestion of flying units is also kind.of addressed with the Allayi units.

At this point, I only dare to wish for an expansion adding more to the core game mechanics, similar to the Guardians ...

Giving them the ability to steal pearls seems like a good idea, or maybe even the ability to change someone's vote during the winter on what to change?

Actually, ya, let everyone steal pearls, Forgotten can also influence winter vote

Heck, why can't anyone steal resources and dust? Most things in the spy system involve harming the other player, but not necessarily helping yourself. Sure, the forgotten can steal tech, they need that, but it would be a cool idea for everyone to want to steal dust through infiltration...

I just hope that this discussion does not end up with the next DLC (after the Shifters) being again about a new race. I'd prefer new game modes, new mechanics (e.g. Guardians), etc.

And just IMO : I really like the Shifters so far, they bring a lot of new unique mechanics (aspiration, form shifting). I'd wish that Amplitude would make the Forgotten even more unique ...
