RELEASE NOTES - "INFERNO" [1.6.2]

CHANGES AND ADDITIONS [ALL VERSIONS]

  • Changed savegame and map file extensions to prevent antivirus and firewall software from blocking their usage.
  • The game now supports Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters (modding only).
  • Changed the way cutscene subtitles are handled (they can now be modded).
  • Prioritized factions with special needs when choosing spawn positions to give them more chances of a good spawn.
  • Increased the AI priority of faction-specific military technologies for all major factions.
  • Cities traded with the Cultists are destroyed immediately as they do when conquered by force in order to avoid Cultist empires with multiple cities.
  • Break down of trait-based FIDSI output in tile tooltip for cases where a faction has multiple traits affecting the same currency output.
  • Added a notification when playing a new faction for the first time (Kapaku only, for now).

ADDITIONS [INFERNO]

  • Added Volcanic terrain with 6 variations: Basalt Plains, Scorched Wilds, Barren Soil, Lava Swirls, Ash Drifts and Badlands.

  • Added a new river type: Lava Flow, impacting armies on the map and in battle.

  • Added 4 new Anomalies: Lava Chimneys, Lava Geyser, Fumarole and Caldera Lake.

  • Added Dust Eclipse phenomenon, activating a brand new trait per faction for all major factions.
A Dust Eclipse sweeps Auriga, disrupting the natural order, and empowering all races.
    • Wild Walkers: Dust Divination.
With greatly heightened senses during Dust Eclipses, Wild Walkers are carefully attuned to Auriga's other inhabitants, granting them the capacity to meet the enemy head-on.

    • Broken Lords: Sould Burn.
With Dust already writhing beneath their great suits of armor, it is no surprise that Dust Eclipses can have such great impacts on the Broken Lords' armies.

    • Vaulters/Mezari: Teleportation Finesse.
Powerful currents of Dust in the air during Dust Eclipses greatly enhance the accuracy of Vaulter teleportation, allowing more target destinations.

    • Necrophages: Rising Dead.
When Dust Eclipses descend on Auriga, animating forces bring to life some of corpses of the Necrophages' great heaps of flesh, creating not-so-fresh recruits.

    • Ardent Mages: Rising Fire.
Building off pain rituals, during Dust Eclipses injured Ardent Mages find themselves driven into violent rages that make them extra dangerous fighters.

    • Roving Clans: Setseke Infusion.
Setsekes, the giant scarabs that underpin the Clans culture, become invigorated during Dust Eclipses leading to even greater reverence for their powers.

    • Drakken: Mystical Words.
With the general confusion and bouts of arcane mysticism that Dust Eclipses bring, unruffled Drakken diplomats are more effective during negotiations at this time.

    • Cultists: Worshippers Frenzy.
Leveraging the feelings of fanaticism that Dust Eclipses instill in Auriga's lesser races, Cultists preach that they are a sign from the Queen.

    • Forgotten: Dust Opportunists.
Taking advantage of Dust's magical propensity to literally drift out of imperial coffers during Eclipses, infiltrated Forgotten spies can potentially steal small fortunes during the long twilight night.

    • Allayi: Call of Auriga.
Responding to Auriga's apparent distress, the Allayi are moved to great feats of endurance during Dust Eclipses.

    • Morgawr: Riders of the Wild Winds.
As natural seafarers, the Morgawr are the only faction able to take advantage of the high winds and rough seas that characterise the oceans during Dust Eclipses.

    • Kapaku: Shaman's Knowledge.
Already well-attuned to earthen energies, Kapaku shamans gain near supernatural powers of insight at times of Dust Eclipse.

  • Added Confluxes on the world map, granting temporary boosts to armies collecting them.

  • Added a new Major Faction: the Kapaku.
The Kapaku are a new race uniquely suited to the Volcanic Terrain, able to thrive off it where other races would struggle, and their symbiotic relationships with their golems allows them to exploit more resources more efficiently, fueling their machinery to turn Auriga into a new Volcanic Paradise.

  • Added a new trait: Volcanoformation.
  • Added a new army action, unlocked by the Volcanoformation: Volcanoform, allowing to use Volcanoforming devices and change any terrain into a volcanic one.

  • Added a new trait: Stargazers.
Auriga's pattern of Dust Eclipses was well understood by the Concrete Endless, predicated on the chaotic interaction of moons.

  • Added a new technology: Siege Engineering.
Provides an Industry stockpile generated by dealing siege damage to enemy city fortifications.

  • Added a new extension type: Golem Camp.
Populated by indefatigable golem workers, these camps enable cities to create boroughs entirely separated from their parent metropolis.

  • Added 3 new volcanic Technologies unlocking 3 new city Improvements and items.

  • Added ground effect Dust Blizzard impacting armies on the map and in battle.

  • Added 2 Inferno in-game soundtracks.

RELEASE NOTES - "SYMBIOSIS" [1.7.1]

CHANGES AND ADDITIONS [ALL VERSIONS]

  • Added for all major non custom factions a specific gameplay notification when starting a new game (except for Kapakus who already had one in Inferno).
  • "A question of proof" quest is no longer available for Cultists faction.
  • "Manifestations of Destiny" quest is no longer available for Cultists faction.
  • Updated all soundtracks.

CHANGES AND ADDITIONS [TEMPEST]

  • Added a dedicated icon for Release Catspaw action.

CHANGES AND ADDITIONS [INFERNO]

  • Slightly decreased the resources cost of Volcanic Leecher improvement.

ADDITIONS [SYMBIOSIS]

  • Added new creatures: the Urkans and their lices
Urkans are 3 massive beasts that appear randomly around the map taking control of neutral land. To tame the creature, empires will have to bait them with specific Luxuries or defeat them in battle alongside their minions. Taming an Urkan unlocks a new set of unique abilities that is suited for both defensive and aggressive playstyles.

  • Added a special screen when taming Urkans, to train each creature and develop their incredible powers.
13 new powers can be unlocked, the few most powerful ones requiring to control more than one Urkan. Powers can grant local like regional massive effects.

  • Added a competitive quest once the 3 Urkans have been revealed.

  • Added a new Major Faction: the Mykara.
The Mykara are a race of sentient plant matter and fungi, a single organism spanning thousands of semi-autonomous agents and time immemorial, ever adapting to survive and thrive. They spread all over Auriga as a massive underground root system, sprouting on the edges of the map, clinging to the regions other factions leave unattended.

  • Added a new affinity: Creeping Presence
With mycelial webs spread throughout the underground, tendrils can easily exploit undefended sites across Auriga. The Mykara manage and develop a single city but can create Fungal Blooms on points of interest, even out of their territory. Fungal blooms exploit the tile for the unique city, while granting several bonuses on points of interest. Fungal Bloom creation consumes Food from the Main City, for a few turns.

  • Added a new trait: Inefficient Extraction
Although able to extract resources from the earth, production is halved compared to usual extractors.

  • Added a new trait: Organic Defense
With the very fabric of the city made from mycelial webs, defenses are stronger than the brittle nature of rock and clay, and additionally enjoy the ability to self-repair after damage.

  • Added a new trait: Organic Industry
With Mykaran foodstuff a living, symbiotically-entwined part of the fabric of the nexus, the fungal species can leverage the fruits of these gardens into industrial production.

  • Added a new trait: Overgrown Cities. Once completed, a symbiosis grants a unique trait, different for each of the 13 factions.
The Mykara seek new races in order to evolve through symbiosis, capturing cities in a unique manner. Enmeshed in a web of mycelial tendrils, cities' further development is arrested but limited resources are still channeled back to the nexus.

  • Added a new technology: Urkan Encampment
Featuring a natural symbiosis with the Urkans on account of their entwined evolution, the Mykara can find shelter and sustenance on the great beasts' carapaces, allowing them to station armies inside.

  • Added a new technology: Urkan Politics
Taming one of the great Urkans isn't easy--and by no means leads to a 100% dependable servant--but having one of the beasts on your side does strike the fear of the gods into rivals.

  • Added a new Dust Eclipse effect: Twilight Flourish
With Dust in the air during Aurigan Eclipses, it becomes possible to accelerate tendril growth, resulting in much faster deployment of mycelial outgrowths.

  • Added 2 Symbiosis in-game soundtracks.

[Known Issues]

  • "A Helpless Hero" quest may fail if the army is garrisoned
  • "A Land of Fire and Ash" may not properly reward Dust for the final volcanoformer
  • In multiplayer games, volcanoformers for "A Land of Ash and Fire" may spawn primarily around the host
  • The global food penalty associated with "A Land of Fire and Ash" may apply -1 Food on City rather than -1 Food Per Tile
  • "Celebrating the Solstice" quest checks for activating boosters, rather than active boosters
  • The fire Guardian spawned for "Wildfire" may pursue and attack invisible armies
  • "Old Haunts" quest army may not spawn with the correct units

Patch Notes [1.8.52] (PC-only for now; Mac to follow)

FIXES

  • Fixed units from DLCs missing textures
  • "Wildfire" quest no longer triggers in the very early game
  • Fixed most quests that spawn armies not being functional
  • Added missing villages to Auriga map and increased number of watchtower foundations (This should also address cases of save file corruption when playing on the Auriga map)

Apologies to our players on Mac.

Technical issues have kept us from creating a stable Mac version of this build. We hope to remedy this soon, but the impact of of the quest-related bugs on the game experience is such that we do not want to delay the release of this patch. In the meantime, you can continue playing on version 1.8.45, and if you wish to play multiplayer with people on PC, they can roll back to this version from the Betas tab of the game's properties.
