During thousands of years religions were more importante than sciences.

In 4x games, I always thought that Science is too important and that you alway need too much of it even for the others kind of win.

I would like to see a world were you don't need to develop technology, but your mind.

But in the context of EL, I'm all for religions/beliefs since EL begins in a much more ancient time.

And I really like the idea of having a God system in the game, whether they actually exist in the game or not. Making them akin to the greek and/or Roman gods would especially help the fantasy/legendary feel allot. I get allot more immersed in games when I can see my people believe in something unique. Especially if there are allot of different Gods to diversify play style and make every game different. Plus a God system would be allot different than the Civ religion system, so no heat there.

Perhaps if the player exploits an ancient temple of one of the gods, they can access and use the religion, giving you the specific trait of that god. Could help emphasize exploring, and defending the temple against other empires who want that God's trait. But one thing I always found interesting about Greek and Roman mythology were the Myths and Fables about the gods that caused the people to do and believe something. So perhaps you could adopt Fables and Myths that would add effects to the religion, which would also allow the lore of the game to surface.

These fables and myths could even help shape religions throughout the eras, to make sure the religions modernize with your people and stay competitive with each other, depending on the chosen effects.

Overall religion is something I really enjoy in Civ, but I think there is allot of space for Amplitude to take it and make it bigger and deeper than anything Civ did with religion.

Religion didn't declined at all since science became what we know today. It's just the way it's viewed.

Anyway, Religion in game could be a way to play the same faction differently.

Imagine a vegetarian god for the necrophages smiley: mrgreen It could be really fun to play.

I totally agree with you that in Endless Space Religions do not exist anymore!

The celtics have a lot of interesting gods too.

I think your idea of temples that you find and defend interesting too.

It would be interesting if you could handle it many ways, for example, you can create prophets in the temples and send them to cities to convert them.

Or defend it military to impose your religion by force like the crusades.

If you don't want a religion, you can sell the temple to other faction or rent it.

So I think having a religion shouldn't be something easy not something everyone do it should really depend of your strategy.

Advantages should be great but inconvenients too!

I don't know how it is in civ5, I don't have the extension.

I agree with you, it would be great to be able to create your religions.

If we could create one a bit like creating a faction in ES, with a system of points, and if you want good positive traits, you need to add bad one to have more points.

I think religions shouldn't just add some traits, like you are better to war if you choose Ares.

Like you say, having some quest, like you should build a church, conquer a city, or make a pilgrim evolve to priest...

If you will have some trouble, like food disease, so you would have less food for 5 turn.

Religion could potentially be a great addition if amplitude wanted to include it, or possibly later in updates/expansion. It could allow for a number of quest chains also.

You could have the choice of predefined ones in the game with their own lore already, and following the same one as another faction would be good for diplomacy etc.

On the other hand I suppose you could create your own, with traits maybe? Something like Civ V?

Yeah, it is weird, in he whole history of civilizations, there is religions.

I really think it can be an awesome addition to the gameplay.

I hope that EL is going to be the best 4X, so I try to give some ideas!

I don't think such system was intended by the devs. There's no mention of religion in ES or DotE.

But, as you mention it, it's strange there wasn't any religion created by the creatures of the endless.

As I read the winter will not have specific duration, so the gods could determine the winter, if they are happy with you it could be shorter and if they are angry longer.

You could also do some sacrifice, for example kill one of your unit in honor of the gods so they will be happy.

An example, the god of war request me to conquer a city, but I am unable to, I have not enough unit so he is angry, and I will have a long winter, but I really need to have more food to develop my city, so I will do a sacrifice to have help from the gods.
