Well, I can try, do you have tips on where to start when it comes to number crunching? I was never into building custom factions in game in endless space or Master of orion 2 <_<

That what melkathi and PANCZASU had said is are good ways.

For now The federation and the Cultists of the Eternal End are my favorites.

I really like the federation idea of natives - weak separately but strong together - and building their strengh with minor faction. It could be even better with some additional info on their relations with the major factions in order to implement them better in Auriga. As for them goal, it could sounds a bit like Noah's Ark, living the planet together to live somewhere else, with a more "close to the end" feeling ?

On the other hand the Cultist sounds really good, with a deep coherent background wich I like a lot. The religion is a great purpose and justify very nicely the use of minors. There is however some things a bit unclear about the way we could play them (How war would work if you cant take other factions cities ?, as for the automatic casus belli while fighting a minor (no diplomatic cost then ?))

Huh? Dang it, sounds like The Federation might be similar to my idea <_< The main gameplay idea is that they are weak(or even weaker than, being composed of sabotage, spy and support units) as other minor factions, but they become stronger by allying with other minor factions until they are able to face other empires. Though I guess I still have dibs on guerilla warfare intepretion smiley: stickouttongue

Eitherway, I hope it doesn't end up mattering much... I guess if we have multiple takes on cults and parasitic beings, we might as well have multiple takes on alliance based factions... Still feels little sad that someone got the basic idea first <_<

Speak for yourself. smiley: stickouttongue At this rate, I don't know if I'll have some worth the effort for the deadline. Nothing prevents me from joke faction like "Farmer Alliance", dedicated to buy minor factions everywhere with food stockpiles and with weakling units like "Farmer Militia", "Mule Cavarly" and "Beer Baron" (reasons enough to depend on real units like those of the Minors). smiley: stickouttongue But I'd prefer to present something, a bit more, serious.

That is how MANY of current submissions work. The theme of the competition is "minor factions" so making your major faction reliant on minor factions is an obvious way of creating something awesome that fits the theme. Even my idea is similar - Mesaima are really, really bad on their own but they grow stronger once they infect some minor factions, completely change their bonuses, and incorporate them into the glorious Mesaima republic.

Personally I'd say the Federation is more an alliance of Minor Factions out to unite all of Auriga, while yours sound like puppet-masters and behind-the-scenes kind of guys... But I might be wrong.

I guess that is true... I Didn't think about it in that way.

Nah, my idea is faction is group of isolationist tribes who realized that even together they aren't match for major factions and they aim to preserve their independence and culture by allying with other minor factions.

Huh, now that I think of it, I think my idea technically opposite of yours ._. Your faction aims for unity while my faction is more of seperationist in that they don't really want anything to do with other factions and would prefer to be left alone

Actually I'd say their goal is rather more optimistic: to weather the dark times and build an Empire to stand the test of time. But an Ark may be more realistic... But again, they are supposed to be very optimistic...

Hmmm... Decisions, decisions...

If only we could get both in the game, we could be best rivals! smiley: wink

As a fellow fan of the "Slam two foreign words together" way of naming things in settings, you might have my vote.

Unless the Federation makes it to voting...

I see what you did there lol

melkathi wrote:

You could say that. But it is a bit selfish to call it "your" blood. Mesaima surely deserve a bit of it. Just a tad. Maybe a little. Actually, they probably could use some more, like a moderate amount. And since you're not using it properly why not most of it? And since most is almost the same as all... why not just give them all of your blood and the rest of your body? smiley: kitty

It's strange that no one has propose a winter based faction yet. Thinking of all the "winter is coming stuff" i might do it by myself...

I already submitted a faction (even though it has no chance of winning), otherwise I may have made a counter-faction to yours: Winter is Leaving :P

Indeed, but i had something else in mind.. They are a bit too much undead-like to me.

Something like beeings born with the winter, not knowing what they are doing there and seeking for answer to their existence. As they are new born they will rely on the Minor factions to get technology, units and influence points. Weak in summer, high buffs in winter. Malus with minor and major faction relations. Beautifull cities of ice and snow. Etc.. If anyone .. smiley: smile

A factions which is strong in winter(plus a more serious winter which is a discussed idea in the forum) would be a good idea. I like the idea.

While that is cool, wouldn't that faction has to be horrible in summer where everyone else is better? I mean, everyone is horrible in winter, so seems fair they would be horrible in summer instead.

That would be the question. But yes that would be needed for balance.
