b) Amplitude really should pick 3 winners. One of them will get his faction in before EL release and he'll get to visit gamescom as well. Meanwhile the two runner-ups will see their faction implemented post-release in an expansion. That would be soooooooooo cool smiley: biggrin

Agreed.

Or the runner ups could be turned into minor factions.

Oh, and don't go too crazy on the Mesaima smiley: wink

With the "ship" design part of the third "Quest", the devs may even already be planning this. The ship then being used to transfer the faction to ES and to add it as an option to DE.

Maybe but isn´t there naval transport too in the game? There is currently a technology you can research but it doesn´t work now.

Of course and if you look at the spaceship desgin of the Empire you can see similarities between the space ship and naval ship.

I hope too this will happen.

I'm all for choosing the top three as well. There are some cool ideas (mine being the coolest smiley: stickouttongue ), but I'd like to see a few if these get added.

Looking forward to Monday when Amplitude gets back to work smiley: smile

That's also what I was thinking.

There's not such a thing as "too many great ideas".

But you know... time and money...

Which is why we can have one main winner now and two (or MOAR) post release in an expansion/DLC. I would buy a DLC that adds some of those factions. Especially if one of those factions is mine. That won't happen however, Mesaima can simply infect all the voters and vote for themselves so they'll get into the game before that smiley: sarcastic

Well if my faction ever got spacefaring tech. Like escape from Auriga in a colony ship, they would probably just set course to the sun and burn to a crisp... Something in the ancient text about the chosen ones going to the sun itself to stand at Feros' side...

A pity, really smiley: stickouttongue

The Voyagers/Ark folk

The Voyagers as they are called know are what's left of ancient race of advanced reptilian creatures that established a wide ocean merchant empire on a distant land. Their beliefs centered around profit above all else, their trading companies constantly fought with action and espionage over trade opportunities. In their prime they had the most powerful fleet anyone had ever seen, no one used their trade routes without paying a price.

When the disaster was happening most of them didn't expect the world to be ending, most just went their business only concerned with tomorrows profit. Only one leader of a trade company saw what was coming so he started designing and building ships and habitats that could survive under the ocean waves. They fled as their cities burnt with only a small number getting on the Arks, either from being a worker on one or buying a ticket.

Adapting to their new home on the bottom of the sea they started becoming more fish like, with some growing fins, growing smoother scales. Recently life has become difficult down below with shifting ocean floor and other seismic activity. Ark ships have started returning to the surface and scouting coastlines for a new home to build a new empire.

Gameplay

• Early access to ships and trade techs, won't be as efficient or strong as the techs for it in era 3 but will do the job, has special diplomacy skills to trade things for other empires early on, becomes more difficult to do when empires enter era 3 and start competition for trade and naval supremacy

• Will be difficult for them to expand their first city and into other cities as they have a small population

• Would only be able to build cities on a coast tile, but they can build water/port districts on water tiles, only in the immediate coast line.

• Focus would be trade and diplomacy

• Would have little to no land armies early game

• Primary force would be naval, getting access to units which act as privateers. The privateers could ransom trade ships or attack them to claim them, they would be able to do this without having to declare war.

• Early tech they could have access to would be something like trade protection deals which give them the ability to offer other empires protection of trade routes for a fee from roaming pirates and other empires navies.

• Would incorporate minor factions by offering trade deals or paying them

• Ability to assimilate many minor factions to make up for their lacking of decent land units

• To make up for little to no land troops they would have really good defense on their cities facing inland

But if they discover the galaxy is full of suns? But the idea is somehow ridiculous, all the time they advance and them *puff* they vanish in their sun. Which makes totaly sence to them but image somebody other look at this action and wonders "What the heck?". Or maybe some members survive because there missed the colony ship? Or they were a bit heretical.

I think I managed to make rather cool gameplay idea for my faction, but I really need to spice up the fluff their backstory by a ton <_< Otherwise they won't stick to anyone's mind... Also, I have hard time of thinking up good pun on tribalistic guerilla reptilian race...

I mean, all of the factions so far have rather self expository names. Necro = Dead, Phage = Eat. They eat dead. Wild Walkers are elves and are about nature and stuff, Broken Lords are, well, Broken(:P Seriosly though, they have "broken" their oaths and their bodies) and Vaulters are descendants of prisoners... How do people come up with such names?

Also, I see that a lot of people have done trait number cruching... Should I do that as well? I don't really have practice in number crunching though...

Yeah, names are always a bit difficult.

And to the numbers. I think they aren´t needed beacuse the devs will changed them so or later to balance the faction and the game but I also think it wouldn´t harm to post some numbers so everybody can get a better understanding of your faction.

Well, I can try, do you have tips on where to start when it comes to number crunching? I was never into building custom factions in game in endless space or Master of orion 2 <_<

I would have liked reading something more about their society, how it is structured, what the Forgotten Ones are like as people.

If you can't come up with numbers, you can always be descriptive "minor bonus" "major penalty" etc. Or give an impression with a point system: 3 point flaw, 2 point merit etc.

When we had the item design competition for Dungeon of the Endless, I just went with ++ and --- to give an impression of what I was thinking.

It can be tricky to think of a good name, true. I decided to combine two greek words to name my faction Mesaima, I think it's an easy way to come up with cool-sounding names, instead of the old&boring "Someone/something of Noun" *cough*game of thrones*cough* ;P

And don't bother with the numbers, just give share your general impression with how strong something is meant to be. Have a look at my faction - I just rated anything as a low, medium or high bonus smiley: smile
