Nice to see the Cravers back. I hope they won't sacrifice too many of the original factions, and if needs be, merge a few. At the same time, I am hoping for at least one or two new factions.

We know of two spaceships on Auriga: Grey Owl and Argosia ( or how was it called in English? ). The story of Argosia is relatively unknown ( the Vaulters have built it but didn't launch it into space due to some technical problems ). The Grey Owl did make it off Auriga but exploded ( or teleported ) in space ( and caused the Rift ). I dont believe in explosion, really.

We may wait for two races to leave Auriga: Vaulters ( as far as I know it is nearly canon ) and someone in The Grey Owl.

Personlly, I think that all races exept the Vaulters are too much fit for a fantasy game and should stay in a fantasy game. Just my thoughts

I am more than sure that the next faction will be Vaulters. During the early development period dataminers found some proofs of Vaulters being a minor faction. Many people were upset. Also Opbot was chosen to be the hero in ES2 and I've never seen him in the game ( exept the picture in the files ). It looks like they've seen that Vaulters still have a big community and decided to release them later as a proper major faction with renewed design and so on. I really hope that this is true.

Ugh I really hope it's not... I don't have much against them (except that I find them as protag as they come...) but fuck me I'd prefer to see someone else from EL I haven't seen in ES1 take that spot as a major faction. Someone like the wild walkers, cultist, morgwar or drakens. At the limit at least the broken lords, the ardent mages, the allayi or the forgotens even though the first one is essentially the Vodyani, the second one the virtual endless with rifborn mechanics and I'm not seeing the last 2 races make it out of Auriga by themselves even with the planet dying around them. Really for me having the Vaulters as a minor faction with quests about them would be a fine enough follow up of their story.

Also SPOILERS but while I actually don't like it if it's true... didn't their shapceship explode as they were leaving Auriga?

Edit: And thinking about it the Vodyani really are eactly the continuation of the broken lord so add them the races I really don't want to see make a comeback as a major faction.

As a long time lurker I'm kinda amazed that there are not more threads like this, and this one even had to be necro'ed.

Anyway, here are my suggestions/ideas:

From the old ES1 races, I think the Vaulters and the Harmony are the more unique ones to stand a change to be included.

The Vaulters can be the opposite of the Unfallen, instead of staying connected relatively close, instead they need to spread as far as possible with their systems but stay connected with their teleporters.

For the Hamony, the whole anti-dust thematic, maybe coupled with living between the starlanes can be implemented in a cool way. They only need to be able to clean systems from Dust way sooner than in ES1 to be a threat.

Super late response but if the cultist would make a comeback this would be an amazing adition to their play style. Also I've seen a lot of people turn down the idea of wild walkers being a ES2 race because their were too "fantasy" which I find weird because I thought their whole story was about making a transition from a feudal and religious society to a industrial and scientific one which should be absolutly suited to a space faring era. Personally I'd love to see them return as a sleeper/automation faction. A race who as made leaps and bound in various technolgical and scientific field but who goes around the galaxy with slight imperial inclinations and arogance. In the end it's not because a faction started a certain way that is had to stay that way. There just needs to be a sensible and interesting progression.

A new "Dungeoneers" faction with no set bonuses at the start of the game.

It would not normally produce troops or allow heroes to be purchased, it would only use mercenaries. On every planet it would be able to 'build a dungeon' - it would actually be exploring the planet. This scavenger hunt could be built with any one resource of the FIDSI, increasing the odds for a specific type/faction of hero, also depending on planet type.

The dungeon hunt would allow for a type of mercenary or one hero to be found at the planet. The DotE heroes would show up for this faction as possible heroes. Maybe some of them would be generally available as well, but it needs to have a few exclusives.

Being a ragtag band, as it hires heroes, it acquires bonues from the races of the first heroes.

As an update Sophons and Cravers have been confirmed by multiple sources while the United Empire appears to be confirmed as what looks like a UE city appears in one of the art pieces.

A confederation would be interesting, but I doubt that it would be the Amoeba that dominate it. Honestly the Horatio are probably way too arrogant to join another faction.

Don't forget that Amplitude has proven able enough to transition factions from a science fiction setting to a fantasy one, and I'm sure they can do it in the reverse. Examples include the Vaulters and the Broken Lords which were developed with an ES1 hero in mind.

Another thing to ask ourselves is how many faction creation contests there will be? Personally I think it will just be 1 like the last time. If you entered the faction creation contest that may or may not happen, what kind of faction would you offer? For me I would either use telekinetic snakes or demonic magic penguins.

I really hate that excuse because it's such a poor one. We have one race that sets out to build a space elevator, an other that are escaped lab experiment and even an other that's a bunch of robot but no they're too "fantasy" let's go with the space vikings because theIr crosbows look like guns and they have a giant robot. Seriously the whole point of that game was to see civilizations evolve in some ways from a feudal magical fantasy to a modern scientific society and beyond. When you use that excuse to bring back the Vaulters you're kinda invalidating the whole thing and you really risk making the setting that more stale.

Cravers and Sophons appear to both be in the game, which is especially interesting considering the fact that they are both leading the poll right now.

why not let player select what special race sub fraction they got in EL final save so it carried over as new sub race royal to your selected starting new empire?

Although they're very fantasy focused, I would like to see the Ardent Mages in ES2. Some Space version of their Pillars would be interesting.
