Yes, yes they do.

Edit: Come to think of it, the Sheredyn are basically the Broken Lords (martial focus, Dust smiley: dust production, chivalric code...); all you'd have to do is tweak the Sheredyn a little more towards Dust smiley: dust and the use thereof.

i just hope that the  new faction that makes it into the new expansion will be led by a male.

I don't think the Vaulters are never coming back... they're the most popular choice for a returning ES1 faction along with the Sowers and Harmony.

I think we will see them return in some way eventually.

Well, since Opbot's inclusion is the result of a poll of which Dungeon of the Endless hero would join ES2, his inclusion is probably unrelated to whether or not they're planning to have the Vaulters return since It could have just as easily been another hero. As for why they haven't implemented him yet, it's possible that they are holding him back to release together with the return of the Vaulters, but it could just as easily be a smaller content pack, or maybe they're just waiting for Dungeon of the Endless' third anniversary (October 27).

Note: The poll in this thread is a bit out of date, there's an updated version, but discussion seems to be divided between the two threads right now.

Which also set them as being part of Corporate & Primitives.

I think it was mentioned in another thread that there's an event where you can find a planet with tons of rusted Sower corpses on it (not sure if it's been implemented yet as I haven't encountered it).

The Planet is MU3R74 it's details can be found In this Table It is not implemented yet.

There was a G2G Vote OPBOT DV8 - THE STORY SO FAR that decided OpBot's backstory as being

"Operating an early recon mission, Academy scouts were exceedingly surprised to discover that a promising species of pre-sentients had, within the span of a few generations, gone from huddling in mud hovels to trying their hand at space exploration. Investigating this extraordinary technological leap, the scouts eventually met a battered robot who introduced itself as OPBot DV8. It explained that after drifting through space for quite a bit and subsequently crashing on this planet, it was rescued by the natives. As they were friendly but of limited intellectual reach, OPBot decided to help them "get there faster," and declined to share more details on the process."

My prediction, based on logic, and from previous Endless Legend DLCs:

- Endless Space 2 took a lot of Endless Legend concepts and improved it. However, one concept that was not used was the Spying mechanic from the Shadow DLC.

I suppose they will soon release a Shadow like DLC with a new spying mechanic, that is an improvement from the one used at EL. And in that DLC there will be a Spying dedicated faction, a bit like the Forgotten faction.

- Since we got the Pirate hero from the latest update that included the fighters and bombers, and that pirate was suposed to come from the DLC, maybe the next faction might be a piracy themed faction that uses pirates and spying. However that still leaves the question of witch race they come from...

- [NOW JUST GOING VERY WILD ON SUPOSITIONS] We have an Opbot hero but he is not available yet. How could he have survived the explosion of Grey Owl? Well, maybe he wasn´t on the Grey Owl. Well, we know the Harmony and some of its variations are still cannon to the ES2 universe... and the Sowers are hinted to still be out there if that unique planet flavour text is anything to go by, although in what capacity, we don't know.

As for the Automatons, I really do hope we get to see them again. I'd love an Ecologist faction that builds and lives on ringworlds/space habitats while planets are developed into wildlife reservations.

They are completely absent from the rebooted universe and I don't even know if these races are still cannon.

I also hope for this. If nothing else I'd love to see them return as minor factions. I think it was mentioned in another thread that there's an event where you can find a planet with tons of rusted Sower corpses on it (not sure if it's been implemented yet as I haven't encountered it). I'd be really disappointed if it that's meant to signify that they all died out in the ES2 timeline (I find them more interesting than the Epistis, which I worry were designed as their replacements). I guess an event where you get to revive one of them as a hero for your empire would be alright though...

This is of course all assuming that they aren't one of the 3 as of yet unannounced minor races in the faction content pack...

EDIT: After reading the theories in the thread linked below I'm starting to think that ES2 has some kind of multiverse/multiple timelines thing going on, probably linked to the explosion of the Dust Crystal onboard the Grey Owl. It might be that the Automatons and Sowers only survive in some of those timelines, or even that it was only a fluke that they were alive in ES1 (though that'd still be disappointing imo).

Our Supreme Padishah Autokrator Imperator Basileus Emperor Zelavas is man enough for 8 factions.

It seems like it's time to speculate again given the comments in the various "Meet the Team" devblogs, especially Olivier's, where it is explictly stated that they've started "working on the comic of the faction that we want to add next". A number of devs have also indicated that they're working on something secret, which I assume is the new faction.

The question is whether it's a new faction, or one returning from a previous game. If I had to make a wild guess, I'd say Hissho. It would make sense for a species with innate skills as aviators to follow in the wake of the fighter/bomber update, and I'm not sure when the Cartographer's Request quest was added, but that points you towards Sykagoja (where the Hissho originated) when completed.

Of course, there isn't really much to go on at this point, so it's just a shot in the dark (unless there's some clues I've missed).

The community voted to implement in ES1 either the Virus, the Dust Collective or the Harmony faction right here. As the Harmony obviously won the other 2 factions were reduced to a single hero each.
