I wouldn't. The Mezari are gone, and the UE can already become the Mezari. It would be a weird day for the Mezari to exist, and then the UE becomes the Mezari also. The Vaulters are also wonderful in showing off how broad the Mezari were culturally, and are probably more Mezari like than the UE.
About Vaulters being more Mezari than UE-Mezari. You are right. The Vaulters still use many ethics of their ancestors ( matriarchy, science and so on ).
UE is a spinoff, Vaulters are a continuation.

I meant as a major faction. As for the new mezari faction it doesn't have to be called mezari. Think of it like how the Horatio is technically a faction of mezari origin.

That would work too. And at this point I'm thinking if I should start a new thread just for the subject of possible returning endless legend factions as I seem to be derailing the threads intention of speaking about all possible returning factions. Personally it's because I never played the first endless space but still.

We know the Vaulters got off planet from Op-Bot. Furthermore, the Grey Owl was sent off planet by the Vaulters. Whether the Grey Owl exploded or not can be important, but we know that the Vaulters got off Auriga and that they did use the Grey Owl.
I was refering to the wild walkers. I had heard somewhere that this is what they were building and it made sense to me as a tower is more analogous to a space elevator than a spaceship.
And yeah there are some races that I too can't see make it out to space either like the warlike Necrophages, the hateful Forgottens, the dust dependant Broken Lords, the auriga attuned Allayi and yes the Drakens too (but I like them enough that I would like seeing them again even if they have to get assimilated by an other faction). I was just giving exemple of races I'd prefer to see get a major faction focus on rather than the Vaulters again.
I really hate that excuse because it's such a poor one. We have one race that sets out to build a space elevator, an other that are escaped lab experiment and even an other that's a bunch of robot but no they're too "fantasy" let's go with the space vikings because theIr crosbows look like guns and they have a giant robot. Seriously the whole point of that game was to see civilizations evolve in some ways from a feudal magical fantasy to a modern scientific society and beyond. When you use that excuse to bring back the Vaulters you're kinda invalidating the whole thing and you really risk making the setting that more stale.
And you are right. I just can't imagine Drakkens in space... Actually, it was one of the reasons why I liked EL: everything is based on very high technology that is so advanced that it looks like magic.

True, it could be. But, it also might not be. I still think we'll likely see the original factions, and some new ones, however they handle the game though.
What I hope to see is a combination of never-before-seen factions and "evolved" versions of the current ones. Sword of the Stars went in the right direction with this in their sequel. The first game had the various races ascending to the stars and encountering each other for the first time. They took with them the traits and disposition that had developed during their terrestrial existence. We can't believe that they would all remain totally static after exposure to both each other and the Dust. I'm thinking especially about the semi-sentient "purpose-built" races like the Cravers and Sowers. Dust exposure would have caused a massive existential upheaval with them, their original societies probably collapsing under the weight of newfound awareness and selfhood, and new volatile, and vastly divergent ones forming in the wake. Another important detail is that "faction" isn't necessarily equivalent to "race." In the wake of the Dust revolution and the appearance of this "encyclopedia" of the Endless, it would make sense to see new powers emerge that would either consciously or unconsciously adopt the same ideals as one or more of the various Endless subfactions. Such groups would be united by philosophical inclination rather than race and one could no doubt find some interesting bedfellows there (Amoeba and Horatio neo-Virtuals? Hissho and Sophon cyberneticists?) There are many (dare I say endless) possibilities.

I'd totally approve of the idea of the UE collapsing and being replaced by the Sheredyn as the major surviving faction (reminds me of the Imperial remnants from Star Wars). But we'll see what the devs and writers have in stores for us. I think the accumulated experience from their games has equipped them to make a truly unique space 4x game.
(I'm a huge total war fan too, no pitchfork needed!)

But no, you're right. As much as I love the Sheredyn, in ES2...Maybe they should merge again with the UE. Or, maybe the UE fell apart in a bunch of divided minor factions when their (likely) corrupt business-based bureaucracy fell apart, and the Sheredyn are the main power that remains of the remnants of the Empire. *shrug*
I love speculating, and my ideas just go all over the place ^^;; A lot will depend on the lore and story Amplitude's writers have for the universe. That, honestly, is my biggest hope for ES2...More of a story and lore focus. I know that's rarely a thing in 4x's, but, I think it could be done, and Amplitude has such an amazing world right there I just wanna learn everything about T_T *hides all of his ES and EL fan fiction he's written in his absence from forums*
I'd say it would be a lot more interesting to have the Sheredyn as part of the Empire's internal politics, but it's highly doubtful that amplitude will have a politics system (and not that there is any game that actually did it well cough Total War cough).
I've played both Sheredyn and UE, and I didn't see much point in the former, sorry. Sheredyn started out as a literal skin (no difference in stats/abilities to UE) and they were a pre-order bonus. Then they got differentiated and given out for free to everyone.

Nooooooooo the Sheredyn were made into their own distinct entity in Endless Space 2 with a vastly different playstyle than the UE. The United Empire was a lot more focused on industry and getting bonuses through high tax rates while the Sheredyn were more concerned about buying things out and using dust to fund their unstoppable war machine.

I would be sad if Horatio is not in the game though, it's easily one of the most original and hilarious (just read their tech descriptions) factions I've ever played. Though I suppose if they really need space for new factions, then Horatio can be reduced to the status of a minor faction (I'll miss undertaking a crusade to beautify the galaxy however).
As much as I like the automatons, I'd much rather have a faction like the Cultists that play radically differently.
Hopefully we'll get a few hints in gamescom. Perhaps the community will get the chance to vote for or design a new faction!

I'm just thinking the Endless Space factions. Some of the others from Endless Legends might be represented as minor factions (as someone else pointed out, there is a Broken Lords hero in ES1), but I do think the main factions from ES1 will be the factions of ES2.

They can't fit all the previous factions in as major actions can they? For EL they've kept to an 8 faction system for most of the release an there are a few more than 8 factions in Endless Space 1. It seems unlikely that they will all be represented as major factions in the new game.
