I for one am in favor of democracy for it is a wonderful system: but could we have an alternative vote instead of first past the post or like a bracket system? As it gives an unfair advantage to people who are at the "tips" that will be read because they are not buried, not that I am complaining (GO Hydrological Malfunction) but there are some really great ones later on too. This event contest was great but it may have been too great and I just can not escape the itch that there might be a better way to give everyone a fair shot.

All hail Amplitude

A lot of these are over the 250 character description requirement.

I agree. Amplitude should narrow down event list to 10 or so, or split voting to multiple stages. Otherwise we'll end up with poll winner, who might gather less then 5% of all votes.

I think it would be a good idea to cut down on this before shipping it off for choice. Otherwise people will look through the first two pages and not pay attention to the rest.

Voted. I do agree it's kind of a trouble to work through the whole topic. Thereby, you don't know which ones didn't make the cut so that was confusing sometimes.

One of my suggested events isn't on the list. It was my favourite one too. >_< Ah well, time to read the list of choices.

Hey guys and gals!

We've asked those of you interested in making Endless Space 2 history to propose new events and the response was astounding! Honestly now, we've had to read through more than 200 submissions and select all the ones that fit the criteria before being able to put them into this poll. That's a lot of work, so a big hand of applause to our game designer quaedam for helping out with that. smiley: biggrin

A significant number of submissions were not selected. While we won't go over specifics for which, the reasons were usually one of the following three: doesn't fit criteria, too punishing without upside, or not possible with the game's systems. Many of the ideas however would make for interesting quest lines, so if your favorite idea wasn't kept, keep it somewhere and maybe you'll get to give it another shot later. smiley: smile

HOW TO VOTE
Simply select all the options in the vote that you like. At the end of the vote, we will take the three most popular submissions and put them up to a traditional G2G vote on the website, after touching up the lore with our Narrative director and balancing the effects if necessary. That's a lot of options to browse and we know that, so it's okay if you don't read it all! Just voting for a few that you like is okay too. smiley: smile

DEADLINE
The vote will run until May 3rd, so as to give everyone a chance to vote.

To check out the events and see what they do, please click on the page number above the submission you want to learn about! We didn't copy over all the descriptions, sorry! 137 events seemed a bit much.

Hi everybody,

I just wanted to chime in and say, "Wow!" You are an amazing creative force, bubbling over with ideas that range from awesome to insane to wtf to NOPE. Really an incredible list of possibilities, and thanks to everybody for participating with such passion.

I agree 100% with Frogsquadron when he admits that the system is not perfect. However, until we can work out a better way to do this stuff without turning it into an enormous sinkhole of dev time (we are trying to ship a game!), it is the system that we have. So if you intend to vote, please do take the time to read carefully and appreciate the effort that went into generating all this brilliance.

It''s only fair. I'm reading it for the third time now smiley: smile

So yeah, we know it's not great. That's what we've got for now.

I think I can speak for most of us in that I am just extremely great-full that Amplitude cares enough to do something like this and employs people who care as well.

Next time however, you have 100+ options you have my full permission to have an internal vote first.

and thanks to everybody for participating with such passion.

Is that how we are describing the pain I went through?

Keep the event Empire-agnostic, that is to say, it should make sense and be possible for all factions.

I had to kill twenty really great ideas because I could think of no way that the Cravers bishops or Queens would: A. care to actually respond, B. not try to eat it or C. not try to enslave then eat it.

(All of this was actually a great joy but really Cravers are lore wise a great race but are kind of a pain to write around)

Just a question to Amplitude: have you considered to rescue some of the not-selected ideas as quests or any other game feature?

I've found some of them very funny, like the leader sepending a night with a young amoeba...

Your event has horrible, horrible consequences for the poor player triggering it, and absolutely zero upsides, or positive trade-offs. It's just a very, very negative thing that happens to your empire and for a pretty long time. If something like this happens to you in-game, and you have absolutely no way of doing anything against it, odds are you'll hate it.

We had some pretty unpopular events in Endless Space 1 that I mentioned earlier, and we want to try to avoid making the same mistakes. This is why mentioned "only add negative effects if they come with a positive effect, or if they aren't too harsh!"

You'll have other occasions to participate in creation contests, so don't worry, you'll still get a chance to make it into the game. smiley: smile[/QUOTE]

Hi,

Sorry but i don't understand what you mean !!!!

My event is the consequence of a poor economic management by the player.

If 4X game, you must take care of your economy.

Too much spending and deficit will take you in my event.

the economic part of the game is not a priority ?

I'm very disappointed that gamers can't give their point of view.

Best Regards

All these quotes are taken directly from the contest rules and guidelines

random events are events that happen without prerequisites (prerequisites are things like "having explored X", or "having a hero on your fleet", or "being at war with another empire").

My event is the consequence of a poor economic management by the player....Too much spending and deficit will take you in my event.

Here is one problem

Government Shutdown

There is no agreement in the Congress to funding Government Activities.

So all the government employees won't be paid for 20 turns. Military activity, Scientistic report , and Economy will be affected

by this shutdown.

-20 Science, -20 military, -20 Empire activity for 20 turns.

A description for the effect, with a duration for the effect if applicable (instant, or X turns) (only add negative effects if they come with a positive effect, or if they aren't too harsh!)

Here is an additional problem: where is your positive? is it 20 units of smiley: fids or is it 20%smiley: fids? why is it so harsh to the player?

Here is your third problem not all races use a congress system or "fund" like the Cravers

Hi,

My post is just about one thing :

We are talking about a Strategic Game, not a casual one.

Amplitude introduce an political aspect in this game and that's great. A new way to consider a 4X Game.

I'm just want to say, don't forget the economic aspect before making important decisions.

That's the reason why i post my event.

Best Regards

Without the game to judge if's it's harsh or not, I supposed we should have made -x% / +y% number instead of giving fix numbers ?

You could admit it's difficult to balance an idea for rules that none of us ever saw yet. I didn't know the goal was to ctrl+c / ctrl+v player's ideas without balancing ? If not, why numbers are an issue ?

I'm quite disapointed that none of my ideas made it (even the system wide one, I don't feel that's harsh even with those numbers), just because of some stupid number issues.

I should have made them X, Y, Z, T instead.
