One thing worries me though: are the Automatons still cannon to the Endless Space universe?

The Epistis have pretty much the same background as them and seeing how the Automatons were a contest winner race in ES1 it kind of feels like they were replaced.

Please devs, say it ain't so. I will terribly miss them if they get retconned out of continuity.

Honestly, they sound more like the Sowers to me...

Nah, Sowers just terraform planets to be habitable for the Endless without any regard for indigenous species, while Automatons and Epistis are more like gardeners of existing worlds who focus on protecting the ecosystem instead of changing it.

There are plenty of similarities between the three of them though, which makes me wonder why the devs thought it was necessary to add a new race that does mostly the same thing instead of making the Sowers or Automatons a minor faction.

Yay finally an aquatic species!!! I love the Lumeris, they give me a Star Wars/Mafia kind of vibe.

Hopefully they are as fun to play as they look.

Hi everyone,

We just wanted to let you know that we have updated the Endless Space 2 wiki with two faction introduction videos. Discover the stories behind the Cravers and the Sophons, two of the eight major factions in Endless Space 2, but also two new minor factions: the Mavros and the Kalgeros

Go check them out here: http://wiki.endless-space.com and let us know what you think of them. ;)

Enjoy!

Anyways I was reading the lore on the two new heros when I noticed some information that got me curious. this is a direct quote from Nelly Sira Ninpere's page:

"So great is Ninpere’s knowledge of luxuries that even the most indulgent of the Lumeris listen rather than speak when she is talking."

What is a Lumeris? Is it a rank or job in Kalgeros society? Or a different race entirely? Other than that I'm really excited for the Mavros. I never knew I needed militaristic Sophons until now.

I never liked the Sophons in ES1, they looked too wrinkly. I was more of a Hissho-only player, with a dash of Automatons thrown in every once and a while.

I can answer, unequivocally and with complete honesty, that we are not going to answer this.

Yet....

Ahem...

Also is there anything going to be done about the pirates in ES2? In the previous game they were a mere inconvenience at best both from a lore and gameplay perspective.

I'd like it if they would play a bigger role this time around and actually be an AI faction in games that you can negotiate or even ally, which of course will draw the ire of the other galactic factions.

Minor factions play the part of pirates, it's in a Game design document somewhere I'm sure of it. :p

Thing is, unlike the Sophons who are curious and have probably learned from other races, the Horatio are kind of xenophobic douchebags who hate anything that doesn't align with their airtight-cult-of-personality culture.

I don't doubt that there are Horatios with individualistic traits, like academy heroes, but I really doubt that they are high enough in numbers to be anything more than small groups of outcasts, certainly not high enough to be a minor faction.

Unless they clone themselves, which would basically make them hypocrites.

Militant Sophons, Kung Fu Four Armed Marsupials... What's next, Horatio that preach the evils of cloning?

But they already do: They preach that it is evil to clone anyone but Horatio.

As far as the return of other ES1 factions is concerned: All I know is, my gut says "maybe".

No, I meant that Horatio cloning is evil. They must reproduce sexually to increase diversification.
