But something frightens me inside my fan soul . In the Academy, they say Varb St Zouieina was a member of the Zolya Clan . A member of the Vaulters clan ! That would mean the vaulter encounter the Vodyani and lose against them ?! That could mean they're no Vaulters

Or that could mean they can be got some rivalry against some Faction (if Vaulter still exist) Like for example Vaulters don't like AT ALL the Vodyani.

That could be interesting , need to know more  !

I doubt it means there are no Vaulters.  Rather it sounds like the Vodyani attacked a Vaulter colony.  All it sounds like is an attack on a minor settlement, not a part of some grand war between the two.  Remember the Vodyani are basically consciousnesses encased in shells.  That doesn't mean all of them started out as the same race.

I further doubt that we would have a situation where one faction would have a trait that would set it against another.

What about Saints? From what I understand some Vodyani merge/get taken over/share a suit with a Virtual Endless or some remnant of them.

I'm surprised none of them actually stepped forward and said: "Okay guys, maybe you're going a little overboard with the whole ascension thing. We weren't really gods..."

At the moment we don't know if that extends to all the Vodyani or a minority of them?  Given comments in the Vodyani Hero Bios, I suspect its the latter.

Also you're assuming that Virtual they've encountered are of the same mind on that, have their minds intact and relatively sane.  Given the infamous history of the Endless I highly doubt that.

Don't worry, we locked SlowHands in a sensory-deprivation tank for a week and when he came out he had plenty more crazy brilliant ideas. He was a bit peckish too.

Good....good...  *pets white cat*

Anyways, I don't quite understand how the Vodyani colonise systems since they live in Ark ships. How does the mechanic work and how do they expand? DO they set up colonies like the other factions or do they have something else?

I have to confess that most of the really good ideas involved intricately plotted plans for revenge on my co-workers...

They have a single colony maybe they can only own one like the cultist or they leave it after a quest? since IIRC lorewise in ES2 every race is starting their space age well thats the vibe i got from the lumeris.

The Vodyani create colonies like every other race (that we know of). The difference is that the population, and probably food production, is kept planetside. Whereas the industry and science production and dust output (aka the entire Vodyani industrial and economic base) is kept on their motherships.

EDIT: I am also very intrigued by the "heretic prophet" story in their introduction. I am guessing this will add some spice to their faction quest story. Maybe we will get some virtual endless lore as a part of the faction quest.

Technically yeah, because their ascension is basically becoming a Virtual, which is shedding your boddy and uploading your consciousness to whatever network/suits the Vodyani have. I can imagine it is even easier for Robotic races to do it.

I can offer a few answers to that question actually...

  1. The encountered Virtuals have been in isolation for millenia and have gone insane. However this is highly improbably, as any kind of uploaded lifeform would be able to both speed up and slow down percieved time. They could basically make thousands of years last a couple seconds. Their memries could also be heavily fragmented, leaving them unable to function and effectively making the Virtual and Vidyani the same being with the Vodyani's purpose being the dominant one.
  2. Some have and some haven't. Based on the Vaulter/maybe Vaulter turned Vodyani, at least some of the Virtuals have shared their memories with the Vodyani. Of course it is also possible that these Virtuals want to be percieved as Gods, which leads into the next answer...
  3. God-like tendencies. The remaining Virtuals may actually believe themselves to be what amounts to deities, or are playing the part in order to hunt down the remaining Concrete Endless (which do indeed exist).
  4. Remember the Vodyani don't believe the Vituals to be Gods. They believe the Virtuals chose them over other races to save, and left them the means for their own ascension into percieved Godhood.

What I'm hoping for more than anything is TRUE CUSTOM FACTION DESIGNING, just as it was in the first Endless Space game. If this game is to be a reboot, then what I DO NOT want is the same "here, let's give you the same chance of a custom faction, but not make it TOO custom by having a faction's affinity be included and NEVER REMOVED!" from Endless Legend; I HATED that crap!

Basically what I'm getting at above is the fact that I'd like to see if I can make a custom faction using the vodyani as the custom base, and I don't like having nonremovable affinity presets. At all.

I think we will have a choice of ,,base'' (affinity, names, special technologies) and appearance, like in ES1. At least, I hope so.

It basically sounds like they can transfer their infrastructure from world to world, but only some population.

Well I guess I know which faction to murder first in the EA. Seriously the lore for these guys is terrifying. Awesome, but still terrifying.

Looks really cool, although how does the consumption of other factions work? Also, it looks like all of the newly added heroes aren't animated like the others

I don't truly see how the faction ability works, need to test it I guess :p

But anyway I think the nomad thing will be better than the Rovin Clans in EL cause "Setseke ho!" was truly situational especially if you can create smaller Arcs (like a second system).

Also really curious about the False Prophet, maybe it's a Questline-Victory oriented Faction.

Keep up the efforts and great job to everyone! Waiting for the Early-Access now :)

One of the previews explained that the nomadic mechanic is that 90% of their infrastructure stays within their ships.    They move from planet to planet for new resources (and likely populations to absorb.)

I love the fact that they seem to be a weird combination of the Broken Lords, Cultists, Roving Clans, and Pilgrims while still coming off as totally unique...

I love the fact that Vodyani heroes are some kind of fusion with Virtuals. Especially the one who seems to be more Virtual than Vodyani. Great stuff.

Hi everyone!

The Vodyani have just been added to the official Endless Space 2 wiki.  They are the fourth major faction coming to the Steam Early Access version of Endless Space 2!

Let us know what you think of them in the comments below!

I'm struggling to believe that a space faring faction could believe that their uplifters are gods. They have the same scientific knowledge that the others races do about the history.

Well, gods arent necessary all powerful, omniscient myths. According to their heroes lore, they actually seek and MEET Virtual Endless, they just reaaaally respect them.

I think they see them not as gods in the traditional sense, but beings that have transcended what it means to be mortal and obtaining a level of power they themselves cannot yet comprehend, something that might as well be a god in their eyes and therefore something they aspire to be themselves.

Similar to the Covenant's reverence of the Forerunners.
