well Empire is not a Dictatorship, although they are very authoritarian and in lots of cases militaristic, they still answer to the senate.

So United Empire should have a new type of government.

So there are definitely Horatios and UE in the game. If that's the case, then Timelords must be something new.

Thats not what I expected, but maybe... better!

I really hope we will get more forms of government, perhaps even some stranger forms no faction starts with.

Heck, I am very disappointed with the governments currently in the game. If memory serves, the election processes were more diverse in the press build. I unfortunately forgot to back up those files, so I can't check on it anymore. But I'm pretty sure one of the governments had a "Winner takes all" election per system...

Apparently there is another form of government, Empire.

I wonder which faction would use it.

Who would use the "Empire" government? The Vodyani, apparently, since "Empire" is the title used for the "Federation" inside the xmls, for some reason I do not understand.

Are we getting new forms of government as well? Or are we stuck with just the four?

I'm a bit disappointed by the final roster of factions. There are too many Humanoids, none of them truly alien.

I was never a fan of the UE, and the Horatio while I don't hate them I don't like them either. I guess I'm stuck with the Cravers until the Unfallen are added to the game or until a DLC comes out.

I also found this under ground combat:

<!-- Horatio -->
<GroundBattleUnitConfig Name="HoratioInfantry" Affinity="AffinityHoratio" TroopType="Infantry"

<GroundBattleUnitConfig Name="HoratioPlane" Affinity="AffinityHoratio" TroopType="Plane"

<GroundBattleUnitConfig Name="HoratioTank" Affinity="AffinityHoratio" TroopType="Tank"

<!-- TimeLords -->
<GroundBattleUnitConfig Name="TimeLordsInfantry" Affinity="AffinityTimeLords" TroopType="Infantry"

<GroundBattleUnitConfig Name="TimeLordsPlane" Affinity="AffinityTimeLords" TroopType="Plane"

<GroundBattleUnitConfig Name="TimeLordsTank" Affinity="AffinityTimeLords" TroopType="Tank"

<!-- UnitedEmpire -->
<GroundBattleUnitConfig Name="UnitedEmpireInfantry" Affinity="AffinityUnitedEmpire" TroopType="Infantry"

<GroundBattleUnitConfig Name="UnitedEmpirePlane" Affinity="AffinityUnitedEmpire" TroopType="Plane"

<GroundBattleUnitConfig Name="UnitedEmpireTank" Affinity="AffinityUnitedEmpire" TroopType="Tank"

So there are definitely Horatios and UE in the game. If that's the case, then Timelords must be something new.

Edit: As the thread has progressed, we've now got a fix on most of the remaining races. 2 are familiar, one still looks like a placeholder name.

Decided I would dig through the localization XML today to see what interesting things I could find that might not be obvious yet. Below is an unorganized list of things I found interesting. It turns out the game files are largely spoiler free, unlike ES1 Alpha.

Since the XML itself is sometimes interesting, I left the code tags in place. In short, the XML ties some text to a variable name so they can use variable terms in the code and just load whichever localization file is appropriate for the language.

<LocalizationPair Name="%SubCategoryVampirilisTitle">Vodyani</LocalizationPair>

This looks like the internal production name of the Vodyani. Googling the term brings up a voice clip that appears to be a prototype/original of what would become the Vodyani intro.

<LocalizationPair Name="%PopulationCraversTitle">[cravers]</LocalizationPair>
<LocalizationPair Name="%PopulationSophonsTitle">[sophons]</LocalizationPair>
<LocalizationPair Name="%PopulationVenetiansTitle">[Venetians]</LocalizationPair>
<LocalizationPair Name="%PopulationVampirilisTitle">[vampirilis]</LocalizationPair>
<LocalizationPair Name="%PopulationBenthysTitle">[benthys]</LocalizationPair>
<LocalizationPair Name="%PopulationBotsTitle">[bots]</LocalizationPair>
<LocalizationPair Name="%PopulationDeuyivansTitle">[deuyivans]</LocalizationPair>
<LocalizationPair Name="%PopulationHaroshemsTitle">[haroshems]</LocalizationPair>
<LocalizationPair Name="%PopulationHisshosTitle">[hisshos]</LocalizationPair>
<LocalizationPair Name="%PopulationMavrosTitle">[mavros]</LocalizationPair>

What might be a list of factions, using internal names, major and minor. Vampirilis refers to Vodyani and Venetian likely means Lumeris.

Only found victory screens for the 4 races we know of.

<LocalizationPair Name="%LoadingTip1Title">Tip: You can use Alt + Click to force a technology to the top of the queue.</LocalizationPair>
<LocalizationPair Name="%LoadingTip2Title">Tip: While watching a Space Battle, you can accelerate (+), slow down (-) or pause (Pause) the sequence. You can still navigate with the Free Camera. </LocalizationPair>
<LocalizationPair Name="%LoadingTip3Title">Tip: To Colonize a System, you must first create an Outpost on one of its planets, and populate it using Outpost Actions.</LocalizationPair>

<LocalizationPair Name="%LoadingTip7Title">Tip: The border of your empire grows depending on the influence of your systems. The more a system produces, the faster its border expands.</LocalizationPair>
<LocalizationPair Name="%LoadingTip8Title">Tip: Each political ideology provides a mandatory law, guiding your strategy. In addition, you can vote more laws from the elected parties.</LocalizationPair>
<LocalizationPair Name="%LoadingTip9Title">Tip: Cravers starts as a Dictatorship. Unlike other governments you select who wins the election, but that might have Approval consequences…</LocalizationPair>
<LocalizationPair Name="%LoadingTip10Title">Tip: Your system can be developed by consuming luxury resources once you have unlocked the proper technology. Developing a system provides a permanent boost. Be careful about how you specialize your empire!</LocalizationPair>
<LocalizationPair Name="%LoadingTip11Title">Tip: Trading Companies are created by building a Headquarters. It will then create Trade Routes from the star system it’s located in to all systems with a Subsidiary.</LocalizationPair>
<LocalizationPair Name="%LoadingTip12Title">Tip: You can invest in a Trade Company from the Economy Screen in order to increase their Trade Routes' income.</LocalizationPair>
<LocalizationPair Name="%LoadingTip13Title">Tip: Minor Factions provide a Faction Trait once assimilated. You can assimiliate through war, or by using your Influence.</LocalizationPair>
<LocalizationPair Name="%LoadingTip14Title">Tip: A part of your growth is converted every turn to fill your Manpower. It is then used by your ships and systems to generate troops during ground battle.</LocalizationPair>

Better than trying to read them when they come up randomly

<LocalizationPair Name="%NotificationEraUnlockedDescription_Era1">This Era unlocks the basic technologies and all ships are at level 1</LocalizationPair>
<LocalizationPair Name="%NotificationEraUnlockedDescription_Era2">Ships start at level 2 and cost more

What each era does for you. Looks similar to EL

And another thing...

Apparently there is another form of government, Empire.

I wonder which faction would use it.

Can you find out what kind of law it is? Military? Industrialist?

Judging from the text I'd say it was Military, which makes sense, since we're getting two Pacifists factions as well, making the UE a Military Dictatorship feels right.

Wouldn't the UE be industrialist? In ES1 they were all about boosting industry after all. I could definitely see them as an industrialist dictatorship.

It would make me so happy for the Horatio to return. It would mean that all of the (imo) iconic endless space factions were present in ES2.

Except for the Amoeba...

Vampirilis is the working title of the Vodyani, so unfortunately no hint there. It is strange that it displayed that, and without the % designating a localization string.

I'm very wary of saying too much, VIP NDA and all, but I recommend checking the "Battle" subfolder as well.

SimulationDescriptors[ShipHoratio]        Horatio?

SimulationDescriptors[ShipTerrans]        UE or mix?

SimulationDescriptors[ShipTimeLords]   Automatons?

<LocalizationPair Name="%LawP04L01Description">The beauty of this piece of legislation is that everyone comes away happy. With lower conscriptions rates enforced, energetic young members of your empire can get down to some good old-fashioned slap and tickle, which is certainly more enjoyable than typical barrack entertainments like the United Empire hazing ritual of munting. Of course, this law comes a cropper when you suffer a ground invasion.</LocalizationPair>

Looks like the UE is still around at a minimum, judging by this flavor text on a law.

I'm now feeling silly for having missed that. Guess I'm going digging again today.

The only thing I found as most confusing in the XML files, is the mention of Horatios.

I didn't expect that. Like at all.

Even though I could definitely see them return as a minor faction.
