What is there to think?
Personally they don't deserve a slot as a Main Faction in ES2 over other more popular factions from the original game, but whatever...

Was there really any doubt?

We kinda new they're coming anyway.

Got to admit the only thing I liked about horatio in ES was their ship art style. It was just pleasing to look at.

As for their entire fluff etc.. it was just so lackluster compared to every other race.

Oh yeah and then the fact that they where very overpowered. Their insane growth and rapid expansion just meant that it would always be the horatio AI(s) that would be the powerhouses you fought in the end game. Got kinda dull fast... so I almost always ended up not having them in my games.. since it just got too repetitive.

qft, but this may be an interesting revisiting ?

Launching ES1 to remember them.

-edit- ES1 musics... <3

I can't see them dropping the Automatons for Sowers for faction #7. That would do 2-0 for the virtuals (Cravers & Sowers).
I think the Automatons are the timeless Timelords.

Most likely, Timelords are a completely new race. They could even resemble Dr. Who for all I care.

Ugh, agree with this so much. We put several interesting races as minor factions so we could add another boring, human race that was arguably the least relevant one from Endless Space? Boo. Boo so much.

I'm not a fan of the Horatio being chosen myself, but I must say I do like the aesthetics of that image.   If the race design follows that weird gilded cyberpunk look they'll look good at least.

tbh I'm a huge fan of the Horatio, in ES1 they were a cool idea that didn't get the amount of thoroughness needed to really bring them past the surface. Now that factions get more built up, I have high hopes.

Pretty happy. Since the only political party that is left is Ecologists, a fast growing population of clones that thinks themselves so superior to normal human that they create they own race is fitting. Really interesting lore IMHO. Also the aesthetic of the city and ships are amazingly good. Hope the devs make them crazier than ES1, but I think they are a great addition

Ecologists also makes a lot of sense for them in that they love aesthetics so much they probably try to keep their planets pristine.   I could see Horatios living in sky cities or something just to not damage the beautiful forests below.

For what it's worth, the Horatio were a concept that was very definitely sci-fi that I don't think had ever been represented in a space 4x game before, so even though in their lore they were an offshoot of the UE, and as once-humans were similar to many other factions, they were unique in that regard.

I think that the development of Endless lore over the past few years will alter the way that Horatio are presented. They could have originated from the ancient Mezari nomad fleets that are given reference to in the new UE lore, for example; that would set them apart from the UE as they had nothing to do with the planet Raia or its culture.

I hope that they are Ecologists. It would just make sense to complete the political circuit with the sixth released major faction. They have tie-ins to that ideology due to aesthetic sensibilities and population growth (which strikes me as odd; IRL ecologists are for balanced ecosystems, not excessive growth or giant agricultural zones), but honestly I can't think of them being more pro-environment than, say, religious. So I guess we'll just have to see.

Looking forward to hearing more about them next week.

I don't know, I wasn't very happy to hear them being included in ES2, too, but honestly... maybe Amplitude changes the way they're played, too? Who knows how they might actually be in the game? Maybe they get changes as big as the UE?

It could get very interesting, that is, of course, depending on Amplitude. ;)

I think this is it, because I played 100 turns with them yesterday and they were very strange. Not bad, but strange. Kind of autistic.

-edit- If Horatio died, they may have turned into a kind of religious faction, now, no ?

Having nothing against Horatio, indeed not my favorite to play, but always liked its lore, what I was expecting for Update 2 was a new faction, cause in update 1 we got UE, and it will make sense to release: 2old+2new, old, new, old, new (Unfallen).

Also highly suspicious that this update comes the ecologist faction, being this Horatio or a new one.

Looks like it corresponds with datamining, there was the same order of factions.

I swear they're just going to name images "pink invisible flying dragons" from now on

May I suggest some good troll image names and meta-data to ensure the forums are super confused for weeks
