There is a bit of difference between what is the lore of a faction and the gameplay related need to start with only one underdevelopped system for each. You can't really avoid it, unless you craft your lore especially to explain this. One possibility is that of a general "reboot" of factions, but it can't be applied here.

For instance, Sophons are shown blowing up their moon, when you consider the scope such an achievement, they shouldn't start just like this ^^

maybe mavros are just a subculture of the sophons, and have split some time before. After all each faction starts with interstellar travel (at least using the lanes)

Given how fond Amplitude is of the Vaulters (they've been in every game so far), I imagine they'll show up as a DLC race, like the way they were first introduced in ES1.

I hope they're just one of the remaining Minors, and not a DLC race, because that implies a Major faction. There are already too many Human-type Major factions. We need more alien aliens in the game.

Wish they loved the Amoeba enough to make them a DLC race too...

But that's not going to happen now that they are a Minor Faction.

Damn... I didn't know about that. I always thought about it as a Vaulter clan because they used that name a lot.

So what is the status of the Vaulters in the new setting? Are they still out there? Did they die off on Auriga? Have they been retconned out of existence?

So the quoted Volya clan could be either Mezari or Vaulter ?

Originally Mezari clan, it had its descendants among those who formed Vaulters.

We do know that the Vaulters exist out there and have colonies don't they? It is stated as much in one of the Vodyani hero's backstory, so we know for sure they made it off the planet.

Could you point me in that hero's direction? I can't seem to find any reference.

this http://wiki.endless-space.com/academy/varb-st-zouieina#identity.

Varb St Zouieina was a member of the Zolya Clan.  Zolya Clan is part of the Vaulters, yes ?

/me to /me : "* do not post this, do not post this, do not post this, do not post this *"

Undead Puppy, maybe you misread "Virtuals" for "Vaulters" ?

There's a lot of human-like people on Vodyani'arts though. Some even seems to be Vaulters/Pilgrim.

(this or control+F mezari or vaulters in the translate xml - but I think people allready searched for this).

Also going back to the Sophons and Dyson Spheres, it does seem that they built one around their star, seeing how they show it in the prologue video for the faction.

These little newts are more advanced then I gave them credit for.

I don't think the Sophons made a Dyson sphere. The prologue video shows a device that "harnesses the energy of the sun" and shoots it out as a beam. But that might be a far lesser tech than the usual description of a Dyson sphere, which is building a complete shell at 1AU from a star, so 100% of the energy is utilized. Dyson spheres should be very late tech, not at the start of FTL travel.

The energy beam thingie around the sun does look like a pretty cool system defense weapon though, if it can be aimed...

The thing is still huuge.

I assume thats their homestar which according to lore is a giant blue star assuming the star is similar in size than the Bellatrix star we are talking of a radius of 4,170,000 kilometers that thing extracting the energy of the start is easily many times larger than earth the sophons are pretty hardcore easily a type 2 civ making them thousands of years more advanced than us today.

So now that endless space 2 has been released i ve been wondering some stuff due the new lore.

1. How much has passed since the endless demise? millions of years ? thousands ?

2. Why the virtuals wanted to terraform all those planets what was the point of making the sowers if they were virtual already and they didint need a planet to live on. ( is a more ES1 related question but i was curious)

3.  Whats the relation betwhen the sophons and the mavros ? are they members of the same species are they just mercenary sophons or biologically different individuals ? wouldnt it make more sense if the sophons started with both sophon and mavros populations?

4. How did the cravers survived their world bombardment by the virtuals ?

For the last one i mean look at the planet.

I assume those craters were made by the bombardment itself the largest one assuming the planet was earth sized would be thousands of kilometers long probably 2,000km at the very least.

Just to give you an idea the Chicxulub crater is 180 km wide and the KT event was enough to destroy a good percentage of earths life how did the cravers survived something orders of magnitude worse?

5. Those artificial suns and dyson swarms you found every now and then, are they made by the endless ? or another precursor civilization ?

Thanks beforehand :)

Endless Space lore has been somewhat retconned to be more consistent with developments in Endless Legend.

Mezari => penal ship crashes on Auriga => Vaulters ============================> Auriga is frozen over => ES2 timeline

=========================> Mezari settlers on Raia =====================> United Empire ======> ES2 timeline

More or less.

My thanks! It helped a lot!

5. I'm not sure. They don't exactly come with "Made in xxx" labels now, do they...

The Endless would be a sure bet though, seeing as such cosmic feats of engineering are even beyond the Sophons, who, lorewise are probably the most scientifically advanced civilisation in the galaxy (at the moment... that we know of).

The Endless may be a bit too simple explanation, there were many advanced civilizations that we still know little about (Reyians, the Epistis' creators).

1. I'm not sure, especially given the fact that ES2 is a reboot of the universe, but it's been at the very least 100.000+ years.

2. Virtuals need infrastructure as well. Labs, servers, relays, xenozoo's, entertainment facilities... just because they don't eat food or sleep, it doesn't mean that they are completely omnipresent in the galaxy. They had needs as well, and in order to move to different locations, they needed something to download to.

3. Same relation that the Pilgrims and Horatio's have with the Mezari. They are an offshoot species that split away at some point in their history.

4. They survived because they were resilient cockroaches, built to survive in the harshest of environment. They wouldn't be much of a bio weapon if they would die off easily...

5. I'm not sure. They don't exactly come with "Made in xxx" labels now, do they...

I'm a bit confused with Vaulters lore. In ES1 the Auriga was destroyed and we ,,searched it back'', while EL wiki says that they came into Auriga DURING ES1. And, moreover, they are descendants of ,,Success'' survivors (DotE), aren't they? The ,,Success'' was a penal ship, which fits to the UE; but the place on timeline rather suggests that it was before the creation of the UE. And now, in ES2, Auriga is still frozen, while UE is a very young country. So, if it couldn't be UE, who sent the ,,Success''?
