So with Horatio revealed, what's the last major race to be added (outside community one)?

I'll leave you to your speculations.

Do their ships resemble red british telephone booths?

Hey guys, gals and Horatio,

Now with Horatio, the one and only and many, has been released it got me thinking what the last major race would be that the studios have in store for us! Myself I've been looking at the minor and major races already there and those that were present in part 1 and made a little list of what I thought could possibly be the next race to be revealed. Take it with a grain of salt of course as I'm not a dev and it's purely for speculation, geeking and fun. Please don't take most of this too seriously and give your own guess of what might lie next in store for us!

List form species from part 1 that aren't yet currently in the game either as major or minor race:

More likely:

- Harmony (These rocky boys could be added as they feel special and a lot could be done with a (dis)harmony mechanic without using the likes of dust. It fits the direction of ES 2 in my opinion and the game could use another non-human race)
- Vaulters (Since the United have Mezuri integrated in their lore at first I thought it wouldn't work but then I realized they didn't use the Vaulters as name on purpose. They could still be seen split loose and added as loose major faction and if not at least as minor)

Less likely:

- Automatons (Although breeding ground for a possible major race I feel they just don't carry enough unf to stand next to the current giants. They lack story, interest and place. Unless they get a big plottwist I don't see them being added but they are the highest most likely on the less likely list)
- Sowers (Needs a big overhaul to make it interesting enough to fit the other current major races. I doubt we'll even see them as minor race, more likely as events or a neutral force that's always present and spreading on the map)
- Sheredyn (Way too close to the United to make an appereance unless they get their own new story, different mechanics and ship designs but I doubt it)

Else:

So if none of the above make it in we got another custom race on our hands! What kind could it be? My guess is on the following:

- I'd guess an evil or chaotic-neutral kind of race with either it's own weird agenda

- Whomever they will be I highly doubt they'll be another humanoid-ish race

- I'd guess the playstyle is going to be different in a way that they'll either miss a resource, can blow up worlds, abuse diplomacy to upset the balance or something else crazy. We already got enough tame races. Time to do something crazy.

So what would your guess be?

Another Ministry maybe ? Like the silly walk one ?

(Their chief would be Luke Sillywalker and then he makes magic stuff with mind control).

I'm not against magic in a Sci-Fi universe (or Sci-Fan), quite the opposite. As Clarke put it, any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

In Startide Rising, one of the factions (I don't recall the name), basically wills things into existence. It's pretty rad, and nobody bats an eye that it's just the way they do things.

That's quite sweet and also why I believe you guys defined the existence of religion in ES 2 so well. Imagining Augaria had magic(ish) elements it wouldn't be weird to see it infused with dust or other ways integrated to power industries around the universe in ways that might be inseperable from science by the naked eye.

You've kind of already spoiled them in artwork. They're the short, green guys with weird shaped heads.

Like I said in the other thread, I'm just hoping for at least one Major faction alien that looks like a non-human alien, and doesn't walk on two legs like all the current Majors.

I know that when a design is too divergent, it might not fit with the way all factions share the same building types. So that's a possible justification for having all bipedal aliens in the game. But I still think the game would benefit from at least one really weird-looking Major faction, like the Amoeba in the last game.

For some reason I just kind of assumed those guys and the 3 eyed aliens would appear as minor factions...

My money is on an Ecologist Faction, with I'd say either a Scientific minor or Pacifistic minor. Also, I'd say something not humanoid, as everything so far is. And beyond that, I'd bet something robotic and/or totally alien looking. As far as racial abilities go, since they're going to be an Ecologist faction, they'll be able to colonize every Telluric planet from the get-go, thus I would say that they get a boost to production and stuff on every Telluric planet. In addition for the population traits, I'd say theyd have a boost to ecologist mindset, a negative to industrial mindset, and scientific* events* will bolster ecology.

At least, that's my dream faction, as it sounds totally different from everything we have so far.

EDIT: Typos

I don't thinks so. Somehow they don't strike me as "Time Lords".

OTOH, I think this picture hides a hint about their looks. My picks are in red circles.

Do I see a Vaulter in that piece of art as well? =D

Well, yes. There are some Minor Factions in there as well, like the Pilgrims.

I also don't feel like any of the circled factions scream Ecologist to me, but then again, I've been surprised before.

The circled one on the right looks like a big octopus. I could get behind that... at least it's not humanoid.

It might be an ecologist. All you need is the right backstory for the civilization, like intelligent marine animals who fouled their oceans with underwater industry, and were forced to survive on land. Now they're super careful about the environments on other planets. Etc.

This is a huge annoyance to me in 4x games, and I think one of the few things Moo3 did right.

We have this vast infinite universe where apparently all these different races exist, but they all just happen to look humanoid/bipedal?  At least there's some diversity on the minor races, and i'm kinda hoping tree people don't literally look like people.
