In my view, while a United Empire/Riftborn conflict is as conceivable as any imaginable war in the game, the two just don't strike me as natural arch-rivals. If the designers wanted to make one faction the arch-enemy of the United Empire, I would've expected it to be the Cravers or the Vodyani.

I think that a more fitting enemy for the UE are the horatio, they are ecologists, while the UE are industrialists, the horatio are a race of clones some sort of post human society that wants to turn everyone in copies of them, while the UE are supposed to be humans and we humans are highly individualists so it sounds like a common threat that would unite humanity, but the cravers would work too, although i see them most as enemies of the unfallen or the sophons or well... everyone else.

Riftborn are industrialist, but of their quest paths, ecologist is one path you can take. It seems a bit odd, but makes sense, as they are encountering the new and the unknown. Or you can be pacifist, but who cares about them?

Do you mean industrialist vs industrialist, or did they change the Riftborn?

Yep and I bet the Rift became extinct.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Surely you jest!

In all seriousness though, the Riftborn are crazy powerful. I wouldn't say one would canonically fall to the other. It would most likely be a stalemate, as both empires are quite strong in their own right.

(But seriously though, the Riftborn's ships are stupidly strong. And their industry is amazing. The only thing the UE has going for it is influence)
