Did the game do well enough for a successor to be made?

Although I agree, I’d rather see a completely new game in the Endless universe next. Maybe something different, as Dungeons of the Endless was, but still connected to all the other games.

Or some weird game set in Coroz, the original Riftborn universe, with its vastly different laws of physics. Now that would be quite something …

They've been doing fine so far. I'm not in a rush. Well except for even better AI...never get enough of that.

Honestly, I'd be fine if a successor never came. There are still people today who prefer Masters of Orion 2 and have plumbed the depths of that game's metagame. Endless Space 2 and Endless Legend are two "if I was trapped on a desert island" type games that would take many years to fully suss out, I think.

So whatever Amplitude feels up to making, I'm on board. They've already given us lots.

Yup there are few competitor out there, with many expansion and patch going out lately.

TWW2, Civ6 & Stellaris also making their move - both have core fans.

Hey all,

I can't comment about future plans without having body parts involuntarily removed. But what I *can* say is that we got into this thing out of passion, not to get rich, and as long as we can keep the lights on and the salaries paid we want to keep doing it.

It's true that SEGA owns us now, and they technically call the shots, but the have been unbelievably hands-off and cool about letting us make the contents and set the schedules that we want. Of course, if we start losing money hand over fist that will probably change, but for the moment we're in a good place.

As far as sequels go, we really like to take our time between them. We made ES1 and learned a lot. Then we made EL, and learned a ton more. ES2 is the amalgam of everything we learned before that, so there is no way we could go straight to an ES3--we really haven't learned enough new stuff to make it a true "3" rather than a "2.5".

So stay cool and have faith. We'll keep doing this as long as we can :)

Yo, that's great news nonetheless

I am just dreaming about EL2 which will be greater than EL1 as much as ES2 greater than ES1...

That's amazing to hear! It really shows that ES2 and the previous games is run by passion and love for the game/universe rather than people "working". A lot of excitement can be felt when you announce new things coming, I noticed that much in closed beta participation!

It'll be very interesting and a fun ride to see what sort of stuff will be learned from this game for a possible sequel, and what can be improved that isn't already being improved as this game progresses. And I hope other people feel the same way so you can keep doing your own thing without anyone shaking their wallets in worry!

We've went forwards in terms of the passage of time with Endless Space, now to go back before DoTE/EL B)

Yeee, time for the Riftborn to take us back in time

That would be cool, could be a really epic story driven game, but I don't think it could be a 4X. I can't imagine building up an empire from the start if I'm supposed to be the Endless - It should be a multi-system/multi galaxy-spanning conflict with almost limitless power at the fingertips of both sides.

So I have no idea what the game would be really, I just like the setting.

True, but even in Endless Space some of the empires already are galaxy spanning. The Vodyani for example, have already been shipborn for hundreds and hundreds of years and have enslaved dozens of diffeent species, and it's hinted that the UE are suppose to already have colonies elsewhere (if you read Dmitri Lenko's background and look at the UE Main quest, since Traitors Reach is a far flung planet)

So I don't think it would be problamatic to start off each Endless Faction (Virtual, Concrete, etc) and maybe the Harmony and Lost in a similar fashion.

However, only time will tell lol

So I was wondering how well the game did and if we can expect a successor based on that.

What I was able to find out about the game was that it sold about 300k on steam before the sale, and some more 30k in the sale according to steamspy.

Don't know if it sold on the shelf or retail, GOG as well, and how much.

Anyone know more?

Will Sega keep publishing the brand? 4x space games are very niche, so I don't have the best gut feeling about this.

Or is Amplitude the owner of the IP? And they could try it with another publisher?

Any info on that topic overall?

Hello i am coming from future. ES3 was released in 2034, it worked well, way to well i would say. It became so popular that some dystopic states decided to use it as a virtual official country (you cant imagine the amount of pun about the endless virtuals btw). It was good at the beginning, but the virtual country of Sims 7 declared war on us and tryed to murder all of us by drowning us in swimming-pools (by removing ladders) or removing our doors to the kitchen. It created a terrible virtual mondial war and the earth is about to be destroyed.

So i am coming back to the past to tell to amplitude dev to never release endless space 3. Make Endless Legend 2, to save the fate of the humanity.

Amplitude is JUST getting started with ES 2. Considering all the possibilities that can be added to the current game (and Amplitude's history as a developer), why would anyone even think of a sequel at this point?

It is way too early to talk about a successor to Endless Space 2 at this stage, as we're far from done with the game. Hell, it's too early to talk about a successor to Endless Legend!

Amplitude is a SEGA-owned studio so it's not a question of whether they'll publish our next game, it's a question of when will we be talking about it with you guys?

tl;dr: totally hinted at things coming for ES2, oh my I wonder if there is a big anniversary date coming up or something??

Same here. Just to support 4x space and amplitude I would buy all DLC they release. Totally onboard about being passionate about your product. The bigger the team, however, the harder it gets. Though there was a lack of good quality 4x out there, with depth and soul. I felt Amplitude (and to be fair, Wargaming with MOO too, it's just more "casual") filled that gap.

DLC are a good way to prolong the lifecycle of a game while keeping it profitable, if things work out. I never got why some ppl hate it so much.
