Amoeba.

Not only are they disappointing as a Minor Faction

+5 Food

But they were one of the most unique feeling factions in ES1. We need more passive aggressive factions in all 4x games.

Of the current minors I'd most like to see the Amoeba out of the old factions or the Bhagaba out of the new. I'm most interested in the ES1 factions and those that are more 'alien'.

The faction I'd least like to see upgraded are the Epistis, as they just seem like a less interesting version of the Sowers to me. A collective of ancient terraforming drones that have re-interpreted their programming as something akin to a religious crusade/movement is just a far more compelling, interesting and unusual (and therefore Amplitude-esque) idea than a rogue AI that has seemingly killed its creators. Maybe that's just me being salty that my favourite race aren't even a minor faction in ES2 though.

I'd rather see something new. I like the minor factions as they are though. At one point I was pretty sure the Hissho would return as a major but I don't think they will now... But who knows...

Mavros ftw!!

Hissho and Pilgrims too.

Maybe an improve custom faction creator could allow it.

The Bhagaba due to their puppet nature yet being so damn peaceful (their 50 population bonus is basically a white flag for surrendering in ground battles) and for having a charmingly clumsy attitude.

Or the Epsitis cause they look really cool and are planet guardians. They'd be agressive ecologists

Hopefully the questline would explore the morality and ethics of an AI-created civilization - what rights do the Bhagaba have as creations of the Mind, especially considering that they are individually sentient/intelligent? What should the civilization strive for - the esoteric research into the mysteries of the universe that the Minds desire, or the physical growth and success of the Bhagaba citizens?

Mechanically speaking, one of the ideas would be that new Minds must be created for each colony, which take science to build (research in this civilization being driven by the Minds, which must participate in the creation of new Minds because they are so complex), but provide very large science bonuses, especially early in the game. When not expanding, research develops quickly; but the creation of new colonies basically halts scientific research (at least until the later parts of the game, when systems have well-developed infrastructure).

Also, it looks like the official wiki is in dire need of an update. This is the tagline for the Bhagaba:

"The Bhagaba are very strong and dangerous fighters. They become deadly on water planets..."

I'd also like to see the Bhagaba as a major faction but in regard to the wiki; I think that's a nod to their pop 50 bonus;

It would be easy enough to change a minor faction to be an "off shoot". Similar to how the Pulsos are a subgroup of the Harmony.

Exactly. If the Sophons have a subspecies Minor Faction then why can't the Amoeba?

There aren't any real constraints to upgrading their status.

Remnant, Harmony, Amoeba, and Epistis. Remnant and Epistis because I really want more robot races. If we are talking about bringing ES1 races back, add Sowers and Automatons to the mix (more robot races!). Harmony and Amoeba had awesome ship designs and were interesting both mechanically and lore wise.

I am aware that some of them, mechanic wise, have a replacement faction in ES2. However, I trust Amplitude to create a new/modified and interesting mechanic for all of them.

We could really use a religious faction that is able to convert (since Vodyani can't). Probably Epistis, since their lore says they are fanatical.

We also need someone to introduce some form of stealth and espionage. Remnants could be good for that, as they were assassins.

Harmony might not have dust, but they could have a much greater need for strategics.

Amoeba also could be the stealth race, since their ES2 lore says they can detach their consciousness. Easy to spy when you don't have a physical body.

All of the ES1 races, like the Amoeba or Hissho.

I really wouldn't mind if some of them got uplifted to Major status.

Gnashast or Haroshem. They'd be a bit tough granted, but the Gnashast give the impression of a really cool pseudo-Vault Hunters deal, with scattered settlements full of partisans and warriors. Very William Wallace kinda guys.

Haroshem give the impression of a sort of peaceful and hopeful take on Mad Max. They'd make a great Roving Clans analogue, desert traders trying to make life better for everyone and keep everyone fed. They're Pacifist right now but I think they'd make a good Ecologist empire about feeding a diverse civilization, unlike Horatio who needs special dispensation to do the opposite yet still count as Ecologist.

I don't really know what either would do for a unique Affinity granted, but Gnashast could have some sort of war momentum so they can fight lengthy defensive forever-revolutions.

The Hissho were my favorites in ES1 so I would like to see them....re-explored.

Harmony would add an interesting dynamic to the whole dust / Lost Gods thing but it might be too complicated to integrate with the Academy quest.

Pilgrims I quite liked in ES1 but I don't see what they would bring to the table that's new.  The whole nomadic religious space faction is already, to a certain extent, filled by the Vodyani.
