Foreword

The Endless Universe is full of story and background knowledge. To me, that's one of the two most important reasons, why I'm playing Endless games - it's universe!

The Devs are doing a great job by creating all this amazing artwork and music. It simply feels so rewarding to me, to still discover knew things by playing different quest lines or recruit new heroes with their own story.

Sadly, my brain isn't capable to store all this information in detail. So why not creating an in game encyclopaedia of the endless universe?! Supported by all the amazing artwork.

My Vision in detail

At the beginning, the encyclopaedia contains only some basic information. "What is Dust? Who where (are) the endless?..." Maybe some basic game mechanics? (Tutorial) Further information has to be unlocked by playing and discover the game. For example, if someone discovers a unique planet, then an entry is added (unlocked) in the encyclopaedia.

Informations I would like to see:

The Endless Universe

  • The Endless
  • What is dust (supposed to be)?

Major Factions

  • United Empire
  • Story Background (Origin)
  • Characters (from completed quests, faction leaders)
  • Faction related places (from completed quests, home system)
  • Faction related heroes (if recruited once, skill tree preview, academy ship)
  • Faction related ships (if researched once, pls with preview of the module layoutsStick Out Tongue)
  • Horatio
  • ...

Minor Factions

  • "Similar to major factions - if information does exist"

Faction unrelated stuff

  • Unique planets
  • Pirate ship classes
  • Anomalies
  • Special Resources (luxury/strategic)
  • Rare Tech (modules discovered only by probes)

What else comes to your mind?

I think players will stay motivated, as they try to unlock more entries and it encourages players to try different questchoices/research different ship types/ recruit different heroes - what will lead to a more diverse player experience.

Also, it could be combined with steam achievments!

Out of Vision

The OUT OF VISION status is given by the dev team to ideas that are not compatible with their vision of the game or technically not feasible.

As much as we agree that there should be an Encyclopedia accessible in the game, for technical reasons I have to mark this as Out of Vision.

Yeah, I would very much like a database to just sift through with all the information about... just about everything haha

Very much like this idea! The one other thing I'd like to see included in an encyclopedia is information on the different planet types (not just the unique planets). It could list the basic FIDSI output of each type of planet (before anomalies are applied), as well as which planet types are more suited to the different factions (i.e. what they can colonize at the start of a game).

If you want to write in further lore/details, there could be text describing why these planet types are suited/ill-suited for colonization, and why/how a spacefaring race might go about settling on these planets.

This is certainly an excellent idea, one of my favorite things in RPGs (and other genres) is the existence of that glossary where to see all the descriptions of creatures, locations, characters (I'm thinking right now about the complete glossary of The Witcher 3 or Pillars of Eternity) there have literally been times when I've spent more time enjoying reading the different entries than playing the game itself.
To be able to access something similar with all the lore of the major factions, ships, heroes, planets, minor factions... and see the awesome art of this game accompanying each entry, would be something fabulous. There's the Endless Space wiki, but if it's in the game is always much better and more enjoyable than need to go elsewhere to find that info.

Even though I like your idea, I think that due to the characteristics of this game (although a game can last for quite some time) it would be more interesting to be able to access this database from the main menu for example, maybe each entry would unlocked when you found it in your diferent games, but once unlocked  you wouldn't need to unlocked it again in different games.

Good idea.

Endless Encyclopedia achievment annyone?

And you must play all quest manny times (cause the diferent paths), to unlock all pages of the encyclopedia.

The other important gap an in-game encyclopedia would fill would be keeping spoilers off the ES2 wiki, in the form of unique heroes, population types, storylines and whatever else. I like the wiki showing a basic idea of what and who is available, and there being more to find within the game. Though I'm sure some people disagree, which is obviously fine.

You could also throw in more info on different races by having unlock requirements ie: complete 10 faction quests (main or sub quests), win multiple victory types with a specific faction, assimilate and gain racial bonuses for main and minor races. There's a lot of potential for this.

Also an in-game art gallery of every piece of stationary art you've seen would be incredible.

This is a great idea! I would love to see a place to implement lore into the game. While I think gameplay and major factions are a must to add as often as possible at this time in the games develompment, they need to weigh it out with lore. While the Endless lore is findable in the Endless Space one unofficial wiki, the Vodyani are just as important in this game, and should have a space for their lore to be fleshed out.

@Darkvramp
No, a form of in-game wiki that updates as you encounter things during your playthrough.

To OP:
Great idea, upvoted and followed. If there was also a form of a chronicle like in Spore, it would be heaven.

Yes, the background is what draws many to delve into these games, albeit their gameplay scenerios create new stories of first contact, domination, and falls from grace.

The flavors of Factions, and the voice of their individuals are undeniably unique and enticing.

Information on all this and more is currently split between 4 wikis and are often terrbily out of date.

Im CERTANTLY all for a unified Endless Encyclopedia (i like the name!). I like they way AMP has structured the ES2 wiki, with comics, additional art, heroes... It must be done with overall history articles and factions, people, and such from each of the games.

Yeah, your damn right.

That would be so incredibly beautiful, as you could see a lot of the artworks too. It would be a kind of interactive infographic. Aah... please dear Amplitude-guys.. hurry. Please. I am really missing a lot of information on this game. Like how to make particular luxury resources appear in a galaxy, as far as they don't appear totally random.

An Endless Space 2 Encyclopedia would be like a gigantic Ufopedia.

It is really a downside of that game, that most of the information about the rules and game mechanics are provided by unoffical sources, like players and fandom wikis.

I am really looking forward to delve into a ES2-opedia

What I miss most from the wiki, in fact, are in-depth explanations of the game rules and mechanics. An example that comes to mind is how battle tactics etc. determine the paths followed by flotillas during battle.
