If it doesn't get changed, and changed soon, then I'd pretty much want my money back. It's just that horrible of a decision. You just don't take options away from plays like that. In fact, I really think the entire change in the ship design interface is a huge step backwards and pretty much feel I'm being punished for buying an expansion by getting something much worse than I already had.

This issue MUST be fixed, it's game breaking. In my current game, I cannot change any of my ship designs because I lost control of the resources originally used in them. I get that I can't build ships with those resources, but it really has to be possible to step back to a previous tech that does not require those resources.

In a previous game, I got into a stalemate with the hissho. I decided that I would research a new generation of military tech and then roll out a far superior cruiser to turn the tide. Much to my dismay, i found not only did I not have the resources for the new tech (I'm sure i didn't need the resources for these modules in vanilla, but thats fine, live and learn) but I cannot alter my current ship designs in any way because every module in the weapons and defense tab are locked out by resources I lack.

In situations like this games become all but unplayable as the player is forced to go eastern front on the enemy, throwing wave after wave of obsolete designs that could at least be reconfigured to better face what the enemy is fielding... if the ship design interface would allow it. There are plenty of instances where my obsolete ships could have gained the upper hand without new tech, if they had simply been able to swap out missiles for kinetics, or load up on anti-laser defense, but I can't because I foolishly researched a new tier that requires resources I don't have and there is no way to step back.

The problem of replacing out dated tech makes some ships hard to upgrade as well. Scouts for example barely have room to have the higher weight cost weapons. So it is nice to mix it up. Also many of my smaller battle ships have the small engine to give an added boost. I don't require the bigger ones. But if they are replaced completely then that can hamper ship designs.

Yeah, as long as you have a single copy of a resource, you can churn out as many copies of the ship using it as you like, so long as you don't lose access to at least one of that resource.

That being said, this is still really, really bad. This means that researching things will sometimes be bad because it will make it impossible to upgrade ships if you haven't researched or lack a particular resource. Also, unless they have really changed some of the techs, new ones of a given category are not always better in all situations.

Um, never had any limit due to only owing a number x of any one strategic resource, so far. Never heard of it, before, never imagined it, ever and I'll have to try that out for myself. Sounds strange. oO

When i first saw the new ship design i was all like ooh this is cool but then i noticed you couldn't swap between old and new weapons, defenses, ect. This forces you to always use the newest equipment you have unlocked. This severally limits my gameplay (i mainly play military/supremacy only games) because of the total lack of resources you require with the newer weapons. For example if you want the very first kinetic weapons but you already researched the second ones that use resources but you only have 1 or 2 of that resource you can only build one or two ships. The ship may be a little bit more powerful but without numbers they are nothing. This really needs to changed back to where you can change between them.

Wait, what? Since when can you only build one ship that uses a resource if you have one of that resource?

Oo I hadn't even noticed this! Indeed this is a serious problem, and needs to be addressed post haste. Hopefully, it will be part of a next day patch. *crosses fingers*
