Hey, can someone help me out? I started playing Endless Space and for the life of me, I can't figure out how to invade a planet.

Specifically, I am having problems with the following issues:

1. I built some large (large in terms of fleets in this game at this time) fleets and clicked on the invasion button, but they aren't doing anything. If I read the planet display correctly, it is showing that it will take 999 turns to invade. How strong a fleet (and in what way) do you need to have in order to invade a planet?

2. I researched assault troops but I don't see them anywhere. I presume they are some sort of ship module, but they are simply not appearing anywhere for me to add. Can they only be added to certain ship types? Are there more techs required to unlock them?

Clearly I am doing something wrong, but I have no idea what.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to have a fleet with invasion strength, in contrast to a fleet with military power.

There are special modules for this purpose. Either you can use invasion or to less effect balanced fighters/bombers in your ships, you can use invasion modules which speed up the classical invasion you start with the button, or you can include troops into your ships, which cost population when you build the ships and can be replenished (more speedily with a repair module) after use. With these, you can invade even in a single turn. Given that you play disharmony and not vanilla.

A more extensive description can be found e.g. here: http://endlessspace.wikia.com/wiki/Invasion

Generally I'd advise to have a look at the support module section of the ship design screen for finding the modules you need. smiley: wink

Invasion modules can be found among the Support modules on the second tab in the Ship designer, Troops, Bombers and fighters are Special modules that can be found in the third Tab, they also need Special Slots. Ships have only up to 4 special slots.

Oh, that's so irritating. Tabs? I did not know there were any "tabs." When you open the design screen, it looks like there are two weapons modules available (Kinetic, Deflect), two support modules available (Beam, Shield), and two special modules available (Missile, Flak). Each of those is under those headers.

I don't think any other part of this user interface uses tabs, does it? So why are tabs used here?

I have to say that the really bad user interface of this game, combined with the really sparse documentation (which doesn't really tell you how to do things, or what the importance of various techs are), make it very difficult to learn. It is *really* frustrating.

The interface does a poor job of showing what you need to know and it adds all sorts of extra steps. If you want to exploit a planet, you have to go to a special screen (I don't know how many games I played before I figured that out). New ships are for some stupid reason placed in "hangars" rather than in orbit, causing you to have to go to extra steps every time you have new ships (and if you don't check all your planets every turn, you can "forget" ships in hangars).

Anyway, thanks much for your help.

excuse my amusement, It's just you're discribing the very thing i was talking about smiley: biggrin.

Each of those is under those headers.
Those are not headers, they are Tabs, try clicking on them.

You see:

There are 3 weapontypes: kinetic, Beam, Missile

3 defence types that defend against one specific weapon type: Deflector, Shields, Flak(in that order)

4 Special modules: Troops, Fighters, Bombers, Point defence

and rather a lot of support modules

I give you that the current Ui is a bit confusing to the newcomer, the Tutorial is ... meh. and the tool tips are not allways that helpfull. When I stated it was quite a bit less confusing so I did get along with the new system quite alright.

I invite you to look around in these forums, it's one of the most pleasant and friendly communities I had the pleasure of joining(or observing) on the internet. Stay around read guides and ask questions smiley: smile

I know they are not headers---now. But my point was they look exactly like headers for the items directly under them. smiley: smile

You also need to research the correct technologies and also have access to certain resources to use some the tech that is required. Screenshot shows the three tabs that have been mentioned.
