Hull points going crazy!

I had a Dreadnought with 36,000 HP. The armor bonus is crazy. Dunno how it got up that high. I was only armor tech level 2 or so. Once I researched all the way to the top, I upgraded my 36k HP dread and ended up with a tonnage of 1700. I had to reduce it to around 900 or so and then the HP went down to 8600.

So what happened here that my old hull was so amazingly high and upgrading to newer tech made it worse?

The HP modules a % based right? It's possible that a newer version required more space without providing as great as a bonus in exchange.

But that much of a drop is a bit too extreme, by any chance are you trying out the beta patch?

Something happened to get my HP so high. I dunno what happened. I do remember reloading the game and everyone of my fleets had been half damaged or so. Dunno why. They were all green before and then wham. Yellow damage fleets. The damage to each ship was varied. Some were still green... some were low yellow and in between.

Took 12 turns or so to get them back to health. Thats when I noticed the high hull count. It seemed odd. Some dread mark 4's are 21k, some 33k and others 36k. When I upgraded to Mk 5, the hull points dropped to 8600.

I know there is some difference based on experience level... Level 2 dreads are 21750 HP and Level 3 dreads are 27375 hp, level 4 dreads are 32190 hp.

Ahhh! Well I found a bug apparently. My ships were all built to Localized Stasis Technology. Once I upgraded to Dark Energy I looked at my ship designs to upgrade them. My cruiser was at 821/537 tons. It was over tonnage. Apparently Disharmony upgraded my ships armor and hull points allowing them to be over tonnage. That explains why my Dread was so over powered. When I upgraded it it was way over tonnage by about 800 tons... Which btw was mostly armor that I had to pull off in order to get the tonnage down to where it needed to be. I noticed as well that med beam weapons tonnage had gone up to 12 tons from 7. Flak defense went down from 11 to 6.

Here's the reason:

A long time ago the Devs brought out a patch and made it so that you can only load savegames from the current patch because balance-changes made it kinda incompatible.

As a result they received a massive shitstorm on the forums and had to make another patch just to allow loading older savegames again.

This time they made massive balance changes once again, that kinda made ship-designs from pre-patch incompatible again. However, they allow to load your savegames anyways and so you can end up with ships like that.

To resolve the issue it's the easiest to start a new game. You could also redesign your ships but that wouldn't save you from pre-patch-ai-ships.

OK,

With the new official patch out I finally fired up Disharmony for the first time.

Just trying to get my bearings. Is there somewhere that explains things like hull weakness and what it does?

Hull-Weakness determines how effective defenses are on this hull-type.

The higher the hull-weakness the weaker the defenses.

I think it is used like that:

Damage=RawDamage*(1-Defense/(Defense+HullWeakness))

Example:

Small Ship: 1000*(1-200/(200+300))=600

Medium Ship: 1000*(1-200/(200+200))=500

Large Ship: 1000*(1-200/(200+100))=334

You cannot avoid your steam games from beeing patched unless you specifically say so.

The time when you posted this also shows a large likelyhood of being connected to the patch since it was one day after the patch came out.

Yea, I was thinking at first why would the dev let people load games from different patch since that's a very obvious way to break games. But then I remember there's a big segment of the player population that let's Steam force update all their games.
