have an unarmored defender attack a scout and end in the long range stage. the defend will take in 180 dmg. you would think from 180 rounds at long range that a few projectiles would miss given the ship has 50% evade from hull type. but the reality is no projectiles miss and you take in 180 dmg. shouldn't with the current formula be like 165 projectiles hit?

It is not calculated on a per-projectile basis but on a per-salvo basis. So all 180 projectile will either hit together or miss together. The number of projectile only comes into play when compared against projectile deflected by deflectors.
