Hey all.

First up, loving the change to Sowers. I mainly compstopm at Hard with 8 players, and they're ideal for that.

Second, I'm trying to play Sheredyn but with very mixed results. A few questions if I may?

1) United Empire get a hidden ship XP bonus to ship building. Do Sheredyn?

2) Their hero skill (dust leech) seems underwhelming and VERY expensive. Do people sup in a more revenue friendly trait like Optimistic?

3) UE get a hidden tax revenue boost. Is this common to Sheredyn too?

4) Is the approval penalty from breaking a deal permanent? Does it happen if the enemy breaks the deal, or just you?

Thanks for any insights. I've tried testing these chaps but I just can't get them to be the same sort of powerhouse as Sowers.

Why do you say its hidden? Both effects are spelled out in UE's affinity/trait list. And the answer to those questions are no.

Their leech trait is not the same as hero's leech skill. Though I personally find it underwhelming compared to a host of other dust sources they do benefit from (such as their 10-turn improvement).

Last I heard, the approval penalty trait is still not working as intended. As in you get the penalty even if AI breaks the deal. Then again, maybe that's now considered intended?

IMO, Sheredyn's greatest advantage is right there in their affinity description: 1) -33% buyout cost, 2) enemy cannot retreat. Combined with their extra dust they can easily out-expand most of the other factions. In fact, AI Sheredyn regularly does this. The retreat-cancelling ability comes into play when you go to war. You can trap people's fleet and destroy them before they gather together into bigger fleets.

I loved the no retreat and the stronger ships of the Sheredyn when I tried them, but I thought the leech skill was worthless (considering its cost), and the broken agreement problems were troublesome. It motivated my to create my first custom race.

One word of caution: Once you create a custom race, you won't want to go back to a canned race!

I have not played them since the patch but before the Sheredyn integrity turned out to be the worsed possible trait to have.

But for the rest they are insanely good at System Siege. Not actually invasion. Normally one rushes by crushing the opponent before he can field anything of decent firepower, with the Sheredyn you go forth and hold the Thumb on the enemy, Leech his systems dry, shoot down support convoys(ok you shoot down colony ships and incomplete fleets) and when he gets to powerfull carpetbomb the shit outta them. Thier buyout bonus gives them an ample edge at buildup/research speed to get the first few blockades going.

just stay away from Galactic politics!!
