Is there any way to skip the timeout on battles in Single Player Mode

When I press "Automatic" rather than "Manual" combat in a single-player-game, a progress bar slowly counts down before resolving the battle.

Why does it waste my time? I'd rather be playing a game than watching a progress bar ... or does it actually take that long to resolve the battle and it only pretends to hesitate?

This is ESPECIALLY annoying if I'm playing a weaponless Amoeba tar-baby scenario where my defenses are unbeatable but I have to play out the same 3 battles that leave both fleets unscathed each and every turn for a large number of turns (trying to get that achievement!)

You can only toggle the timer that restricts how much time you have to select your cards, but not the timer that counts down before resolving. That timer is roughly 4 seconds and is most likely a way to keep the amount of time it takes the game to resolve the battle consistent. I.e, a small battle takes 2 seconds, and a large battle takes 3.5 seconds. Having a flat time of 4 seconds ensures that if the battle does not resolve, the player recognizes it as a bug and takes appropriate action, instead of guessing that it was a big battle and waiting for a resolution that doesnt come. But yes, we all realize that it is very annoying either way.

I don't think that's the purpose of the that timer. When auto-resolving the game post the current auto-resolve status every second or so and it always start at the initiation phase. With that said, the game could have resolved everything and then posted it during the auto-resolve in an incremental fashion but that has not been my experience while tampering with the amount of time it takes to auto-resolve (by increasing the number calculations needed to perform auto-resolve).

But let's say for the moment that the 5 sec countdown was to equalize auto-resolve time, why do that at all? Why not have shorter battle resolve faster? Why waste people's time?

I'm pretty convinced that the 5 sec countdown in the beginning is extraneous and was inserted to annoy people.

Thanks for the responses. I was hoping for a different answer, but if misery loves company....at least I have company!

I agree. This is massively annoying in SP and serves no apparent purpose. I'd like to read a dev explanation for why it's there because I cannot even imagine a good reason.

I simply presented the only way I can hope there is a reason for that timer. If there isn't, I have no idea how its annoyance could be overlooked. I mean, at least a few of the devs play the game (we hope)

Hi there,

I discussed with a few people and we concluded that we might reduce this duration. We're currently running tests to check if there are no consequences in multiplayer mode (and if there are, we may restrict the change to Single Player). So from the next update, the countdown is going to be reduced from 5 to 1 second.

Cheers,

That's what I love about Amplitude.

If you have a problem with the game and it is easy enough to fix, you just have to come to the forums and moan about it and you might get lucky and it actually gets fixed! smiley: smile

or create a really big thread to save a faction. It is nice to get a response from the developers rather than just left with guess work as to what they are doing.

Thank you for the response, Meedoc, although if there can be separate treatment for SP a ZERO second timeout there might be the best (unless something useful is actually happening during that second).

When you sleep? It will be interesting when this gets fixed how much quicker the game will be.
