Shielded Fighters

The first fighter module you unlock has 45 Current Hit Points, and 0.33 Evade. The improved and supposedly sturdier Shielded Fighters are so heavily shielded that there are only three of them per module, and only 0.2 Evade. On the other hand, they have a whopping 5 - five - Current Hit Points. That's what the game tells me, and that's also what I can read from the Endless Space wiki. Is this right? The Impervious Fighters have 160 Current Hit Points, so the trend is apparently toward more HP with more advanced technology. So why are the shields of the Shielded Fighters working against their purpose?



Edit: Also, shielded fighters take up two slots and you get only three tiny fighters on these slots. So if we do the math, 2 slots with regular fighters yields:



7 shots per round x 10 fighters = 70 shots per round

70 shots per round x 2 damage = 140 damage



Whereas 2 slots with shielded fighters:



3 shots per round x 3 fighters = 9 shots per round

9 shots per round x 10 damage = 90 damage



All in all, shielded fighters have a lower evade score, much lower HP, and the total damage is also much less when compared with regular fighters, so why would I want to use them?
